We are getting married at the reception hall. I already have the invitations. But I forgot to put on the bottom 'reception to immediately follow' so they don't say anything about the reception. Is this going to be a big deal? Should I put a little card inthe invitation, maybe like a sample menu, so people know there will be food.

Hm, I don't know. Maybe get your family and friends to spread it to your guests by word of mouth?

Umm..I think people will just assume. Did you send out you invites already? You cna buy little 3x5 cards withah pearl border at staples that say 'Cocktails, Dinner and Dancing to follow'
Which most people do anywya, if they have the ceremony and reception at 2 different places. But I really think people will assume that you're also having a reception there since it IS a reception hall, however, more distant people like co-workers might think then that they're only invited to the ceremony?

I had my ceremony/reception at same location. It just said the time and place... I think it is assumed that you are having a reception if you aren't getting married in a church/temple.

Sometimes the catering halls offer those little direction cards. Why don't you just write it on the bottom of those cards if you haven't sent the invites yet.

My invitation never said anything about the reception. The invitation is for the ceremony only wherever it's going to be.
My reception info was printed on a small insert card.

I agree-- I didn't add it to my invite either-- and we discussed it with my invitation person. I mean, I am having a wedding at 7 o clock on a Sat night at a catering hall- people WILL know that there is food and drink to follow.

Can you contact the invitation company and get a separate reception card made up to match your invite? It might cost a little extra but it will give you peace of mind
If you already sent them I wouldn't worry about it. Or you could have some family members take your guest list and call people just to make sure.

That's what I was going to say, It is definitely assumed. When people see that my ceremony starts at 7 at the hotel, no one is going to wonder where the recption is.

Same thing. People will realize - esp in NY.

What if you included it on your direction cards?

I'd have reception cards made, so there are no questions. What's common sense to most people could fly over some people's heads. I wouldn't go to such an extent as including a sample menu though.
