Re: Unconventional Reception Venues
I am getting married at Timber Point Country Club - and our entire wedding will be a mix of indoor and outdoor - the room is definitely bright and you can leave the french doors open that open out onto a deck. check it out! :) it's in Great River - so right next door is the Bayard Cutting Arboretum which is fabulous for pics.

I went to a wedding at the aquarium (Atlantis Marine World) and it wasn't super elegant but it was really fun!

Re: Unconventional Reception Venues
You sound like you want just the kind of wedding I want. I decided to go looking in Connecticut - there are so many more options there for weddings that are outside and kind of rustic. The inn where I'm getting married has a wraparound porch, a big front lawn for the ceremony, a backyard with a tent for cocktail hour, and a dining room with a dance floor for the reception. It's over 2 hours away, though.I checked out a few L.I. places that brides here pointed me to, but their idea of 'rustic' and my idea of 'rustic' were very different! I NEED to be married in a place where you don't hear traffic going by outside, for example. Anyway, if it's not too much of a hassle, maybe you could think of looking in Connecticut or Upstate? If so, I have a few suggestions I could make to you.

Re: Unconventional Reception Venues
I know how you feel. I started out with all these ideas on how to be different and not do the same old thing but I realized it's too expensive to be creative and different so I fell into the Long Island wedding girl trap & I'm doing everything the same as everyone else. I'm sure it will be nice but I always pictures I'd be the one to do something different but it just didn't seem possible
oh well.
Good luck with your search, you have a lot of time so you have a better chance then I did.

I know i'm a little biased, but the Riviera is nice...it's very rustic looking, I loved the warmth of all the wood in the place and it's on the water so outside of the windows you see the blue water...I fell in love with it right away and the price wasn't too bad.Welcome New Vendors
