you don't have to spend a fortune to go a place that you really want for your HM.. intially when we were looking for HM places, a lot of friends told us to steer clear of Europe.. but FH just booked our tickets to Spain last week (he did some snooping around and found awesome rates).. and we got awesome deal.. and our travel agent was very diligent about finding us the right hotels and tours..

where exactly are you going?

Barcelona and Madrid..

I am so stressed about $$ it is not even funny.... i feel like i am never going to break even ever again...

FH and I decided one thing... no matter how much 'in the hole' we are, we are going to spend whatever it maybe on our honeymoon b/c it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Yup I know what you mean!
I keep on going back and forth.
It just kinda suc*s that i had the accident and we had to buy a car & the house & taxes are all in the jan-april months - all at once -
if we didnt buy the car - or the wedding was in sept after the closing & after the car then we'd be in Bora Bora in a hearbeat

My first advice is to go on the honeymoon you want. I think if you don't you'll look back and regret it. I would call your travel agent and talk about options. I know that I was getting 12 days in Tahiti for $10,000..I know that is not much cheaper then your $15000 but it's something. FH and I are paying for our Greece honeymoon on a 0% credit card. i hate credit cards but I know once the wedding comes we can use gifts and such.
That being said, if you really don't want to spend that much you can go on amazing honeymoon for much less. The bottom line is you'll be with your new husband. Try to focus on that. No matter what it will be memorable...

I know thats' how i feel -
we got a quote for 11k for 8 nights - bora bora and moorea - top of the line - but im including 4k for spending money and all that

Ya i forgot about spending money....well FH and I are going to Greece for 11 days to 3 islands for just over $7000 if you are interested in that let me know. I'd be happy to help you with that I wanted to go to an all inclusive in cabo but FH wanted a trip that we wouldn't take a gain for a long time once kids come...and I am happy he made me do it. But one can only do what they can afford...I guess technically we can't afford it but that much split over 12 months isn't so bad!

thats what i was thinking about originally - doing the greek isles - do you want to tell me more about your trip? FM me please!!

Why don't you go to BB next year for your 1st anniversary. it would be just as special & you should be in better shape financially.

Tom is still working out the hotels for us.. because we added a extra day in Barcelona.. we're using Iberia.. Tom intially quoted us on Iberia and then FH randomly decided to check out the rates on Iberia's website.. it was significantly lower.. it was a special they ran for the weekend!?!?! anyway... FH got on the phone w/ Tom and Tom told him to book it pronto and he'll re work the hotels..

Yes we are paying off vendors as we go along but I'm starting to get nervous. Our tax checks will go completely to the wedding, We wanted to go to Hawaii originally but we figured we'll do Aruba for our HM and plan a big trip for our 1 year anniverary when money isnt so tight.

A $15k honeymoon?

Wow. I'm sorry, but if you can't afford it you can't afford it but that doesn't mean you can't have an amazing HM.

I try to understand peoples thought processes when it comes to stuff like this and I just don't get it.

well she said it was fine until she had a car accident and had to buy a new car.

Honestly theres alot of ppl on LIW who do go to tahiti so obviously alot of people do it. None of us know anybodies financial situation, so unless we know how much they both make a year and all their other expenses then its hard to judge, bc otherwise were judging without knowing anything. We cant compare ourselves to how everybody does things so theres no need for any of us to HAVE to understand their thought process, its someone elses money so their decision.

youre using iberia? they quoted me 3k for one way to spain ONE WAY lol i was shocked, that means round trip would be 6k. Iberia was the most expensive of all the airlines. Hopefully you got a good deal

I think we are in the similar situations a wedding is very costly especially with other expenses added on top of it even if you can't go to BB does not mean you can not have an amazing honeymoon you can think positively and say we will do this on our 5 year anniversary or even sooner I still have to book a dj I have pushed off my big vendors too long and now I have to make major moves I am just praying everything works out for the best. I hope everything works out for you

i was just going to say that! you can always plan another trip there! or take mini moon right after the wedding and then go to bora bora a few months after the wedding - if your heart is set on it

everyone has their own priorities. I'd have no problem spending $15k on the HM if that's one of my priorities.

So originally we were going to go to Bora Bora for our honeymoon but I feel like we have so many expenses now that I'm thinking twice about a 15k honeymoon.
I just feel like everything is pilling up - we have so much left to pay for the wedding, then with the car accident and buying a new car, having $ for the closing costs on our house which will be probably in a month or so, my FH taxes will be due (he's self employed so he pays everything in april)
& I know if we were getting married in like Septemeber - everything would be spread out and we'd be fine but everything kinda just happened at once and I know that we'd be better off (financially) going somewhere closer and for 1/2 that price and we'd have an awesome time. It's just I know its your honeymoon and we'll probaably never go again to BB - but at the same time I dont want to be selfish -
I know after the wedding we'll be fine, money wise its just crunch time now and im so stressed out about all the expenses.
ok just needed to vent!

Anyone in a similar boat?

I agree with some of the others - you can't help it, you've had a little bad luck so maybe you can't do the BB honeymoon but save it for an amazing first anniversary trip or something like that. Doesn't mean you have to give it up forever.

things do happen, and if before all this you were able to spend $11k on the honeymoon plus 4k spending money and its what you really wanted then go for it. But at least you are able to sit down after what happened and rethink things so good for you.

Like i said ive been doing so much research on europe for months lol, so if you need help with something let me know
