What causes it ? How is it diagnosed ?

We make fun of my DH and BIL, they seem to be long lost brothers because they BOTH read things wrong ALL THE TIME. Like if they see the word STELLA DORO, they will say DELLA STORO, and think twice about how WRONG they are reading it, LOL..

Well anna, now that you asked....it is usually hereditary but can also be caused by brain damage/stroke. It does sound like they could have it. There are MANY symptoms ranging from poor reading,quick to learn-quick to forget,poor at following directions, reversing letters/words,mixing up similar words (was-saw),poor at m/c questionsand long passages, sloppy handwriting, learning sounds of words, alphabet order, stuttering, (these are just a few from different areas). A dyslexic could have one symptom or many. It is actually a language based processing disorder but these people are actually not stupid(bad word I know). They are often very creative but do very poor academically. Often they go misdiagnosed b/c teachers believe they are just lazy or unmotivated. It's tricky. Many actors and famous people are dyslexic...Tom Cruise, Alyssa Milano, Charles Schwab, Guy Ritchie. There is much more to it than that but I only needed 10 pages for my paper I'm so happy it is FINISHED!!!!
