Where would you suggest to stay. We have my cousin's wedding there in Jan. She blocked rooms at Venician, where her wedding is, but I can't justify $300 a night for a weekend in Vegas, where I assume, we will not be in the room much.. We're only going for a long weekend. We're meeting w/ out TA this week. I was never there and FH was only there when he & his friends went for his 21st 5 years ago.

Re: Vegas Hotels?
you can't really go wrong with a hotel on the strip. the venetian and bellagio are beautiful but as you said pricey. the others are just fun, and i remember them being pretty reasonable. I've never been in the winter though so i always hung out by the pool; they had good pool areas. i think NY NY, the Luxor, and the Excalibur are all connected by some bridge so that's cool too. those are just the three i've stayed at and there is always something fun to do - I'm not a big gambler so I went to Vegas for the pools and going out. it's a great time no matter what you like!

i mean the three hotels i posted first are where i've stayed, not the ones above (i stayed at NY NY - kind of cheesy but fun if you are a NYer - it is NOT authentic NY pizza no matter what they say though )

Re: Vegas Hotels?
we just got back from vegas and we stayed at the excalibur, it was fine. honestly wherever you stay will be fine. it's only a place to sleep ya know. it's not like you spend much time there - that's how we look at it anyway.

yes, i stayed at the Mirage twice. I've also stayed at Mandalay Bay, Ceasar's and the Palms. Out of all of those I honestly love the Mirage the best. You know why? It wasn't so completely huge and overwhelming yet it offered just as much as all of the others. The rooms are gorgeous, they just put a new club in it, the restaurants are great. The pool is in my opinion the best on the strip and it's not that expensive (in comparison to the others). Plus it's across the street from the Venetian, not that it totally matters in Vegas cause you walk up and down the strip anyway, but at least when the weddings over you only have to cross the street. The staff there was way more helpful than at Mandalay Bay and even having a good friend who's a manager at the group that runs the Palm's club didn't get me better service than when i stayed at the Mirage with no hook-up whatsoever. Now whenever we go the Vegas that's where I stay.

Re: Vegas Hotels?
I've stayed at Tropicana, MGM, Ballys, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Mirage, Excalibur and Flamingo. Ballys is a good pick because it's in the middle of everything, it's a nice hotel and it's usually one of the cheaper ones. I wasn't a fan of excalibur because it was really dark and dingy (goes with the medeival theme)

Mirage was nice, but I think they can be kind of pricey. It depends on the weekend.

Re: Vegas Hotels?
Michele...we stayed at the Mirage in March and it was reasonable...my favorite was the GIANT reef tank behind the check in counter.
Anyway...the bonus for you would be it is RIGHT across the street from the Venitian.

I have stayed at Ballys, Paris, Excalibur, Tropicana and Luxor and would recommend all of them, in that order.

Re: Vegas Hotels?
Mandalay Bay was awesome!! I thought the MGM Grand was way too big!!! Took you a half hour to get from your room to the front entrance ! Hard Rock is a lot of fun!! Even if you don't stay there, go clubbing there one night! I've also stayed at the Monte Carlo, and thats beautiful!! I stayed at Bally's and it was just OK

Re: Vegas Hotels?
Since the wedding is at the Venetian I would think location would be important for you... to be close by. For that area I would look into the TI (treasure Island.) I got a petite suite in Jan once for like $90 bucks a night. I like the hotel because its smaller. The mirage. I love this place too and you can find bargains if you look . My advise to you would be to book something Now.. then if the rate goes down, you call them and they will honor your rate.
Lastly.. if you are just looking for a decent place to lay your head.. Bally's is fine and so is Bills casino. It used to be Barbary Coast. They have some renovated rooms that are very very nice. The casino itself is very small and a little bit on the seedy side...LOL.. but cheap! I also LOVE Paris. You cannot beat the location of these properties. They are mid strip, with a lot of action around.
The thing about staying at the mega resorts is the cost of food and game limits ...
I live in Vegas so if I can help you answer any questions let me know.
Oh.. I wouldnt recommend the Rio or Palms.. they are too far off strip and you do not want to be worrying about driving around.

Re: Vegas Hotels?
Thanks so much! We're meeting w/ the TA this weekend, but from the little research we did online we like Paris & Mirage. Why would some one choose either? Since you live in Vegas I have a few other questions: Are the tours to Grand Canyon & the damn via Pink Jeep worth it? Would it be better to just rent a car & bring a GPS? Have you seen a lot of the shows? Love? Zumanity? Reviews? The wedding is a Sat. We will fly in Thursday.

Re: Vegas Hotels?
This is such a great question Michelle!
We're going to Vegas right after the wedding for as I call it a mini-moon. We haven't booked it because we were hoping that we would get a great last minute deal. Southwest hasn't opened up their trips yet and I feel like because I want to get this done.
ETA I REALLY want to see Love!!!! FH doesn't really care for CDS but he loves Beatles music so it seemed like a great choice. I've heard nothing but good thinks about CDS.
