This is more generic, but I completely write-off a vendor that I email but won't email me back with the information I requested they say 'call so that we can discuss the details of your wedding'.

.. I need to do this planning at work and can't be on the phone all the time, just email me back!!

I hear ya sista! I actually had an amusing run-in with a photographer. One my hall recommends. I emailed him wtih the date of my wedding 3/10/07 at the beginning of March this year. He wanted me to call but I couldn't. He wrote back with a phenomenal quote that was defintiely in my price range. We went back and forth a couple of times.. then he finally realized I was talking about 2007 . He had thought that I was either 1. planning REALLY last minute <8 days in advance> or 2. that my current photographer for a 3/10/06 wedding bailed on me. He even called my RH to ask if I had just booked or what my deal was.

When he realized his mistake and that I was actually 3/10/07 his quote doubled . I asked why the difference and he said that before it was a courtesy emergency situation and would have been a Friday and now since it was a year out he charges more..

I actually think that if a wedding was 8 days away you would get the deal of a lifetime. Very different from planning a year away. Most vendors who are not booked yet witha week to spare would probably do it for cost. I still would have expected a courtesy discount of some amount I guess considering it was his error.

I agree with this one!
When you email them a simple question and they ignore and give you their number to 'discuss.'

I don't even respond and they have lost my business...

I can't stand the ones that keep calling and calling, even after you've told them that your going in another direction, they keep calling like car salesman offering 100 bucks off with each call.

Or what about when you tell them 'when I am ready to start looking I will call you' and they call you two more times in the next two weeks. I mean come on, If i say in March that I won't start looking until May, at least wait until the end of April to call again! I know it is being on top of you potential customers, but it just plain annoyed me that they called the very next week and then again a week later!

We went to a photographer that our Hall recommended. We were in there for about 7 minutes!! The girl handed us a price list and said it was 'Self explainatory' she show us one small wedding album and that was it, we were out the door. Me and FH were cracking up in the car. As soon as we got home, I threw the price list in the garbage.

Oh I know, it definitely makes sense that it SHOULD be cheaper 8 days before a wedding, but he really should have read the entire request again and again since what he thought he read was so outrageous before making such an offer.

I didnt expect that offer to stick, I just thought he would be a little more negotiable at that point since he obviously showed me how low he'd be willing to go in certain situations.

It was just a strange series of events. Needless to say, I didn't book him.

The 1st catering hall we went to couldn't understand why we were looking to book a Sept 07 wedding in October of 05. I made him nervous (his actual words). After telling us their wedding start at $200 per person he basically walked us to the door. Didn't go over the menu because 'you'll have plenty of time for that later'.

Needless to say we didn't book but how rude is that!!!!

wow i'm surprised but yet i'm not b/c i went through the SAME thing and i even looked at the same time 10/05 and people were like giving us the biggest attitudes about it!!! i couldn't believe it but it was their loss b/c i booked ALL of my major vendors BEFORE december of 2005!!! so $crew them!!

oh, i have another!

When I was at a showcase, there was a florist display set up...I went to take a pic of one of the bo-ks, and the lady swatted at my camera!!!! 'You can't take pictures of my work.'

What?!? How am I supposed to remember you?! This was a house vendor, too...

Me and FI once went to a photographer one night during the week which was like an hour from my house. The guy showed us pictures for 2 1/2 hours!!!!! When he showed us his different albums he would not let us turn the pages, he had to turn them himself and talk about each one for like 5 minutes! Plus it was like sooooo hot in his office we just wanted to get out of there. Then when we were finally saying our good byes (we were literally out the door at this point)...he Insists on showing us one more thing...he had a room filled with awards that he won! He spoke about each award for like 4 minutes each! Now it is like a total of 3 hours we were there and me and FI were exhausted and pissed. Finally we just said we really had to go, and we get in our car and peel out of the street so fast I thought we were going to get a ticket. It was a pretty bad experience.

Well of course the laughing in my face when I say I am planning a wedding two years in advance as most of use have experienced. Also being rushed out of a RH when I had questions to ask...

But the most recent.....FH and I want sliced oranges in our vases for our centerpieces. So after about 10 minutes of a florist explaining to us how he has to charge extra for the labor of slicing the oranges and placing them in the vases, I said 'fine ok I understand. What if we keep the oranges whole?' The florist actually responded by saying it would be the same price! I looked at him and was like 'ok thank you for your time' and left. Don't sit there and explain to me you have to charge me extra because of labor and then when I try to cut out the extra labor for you tell me you have to charge the same price! Ridiculous!

i'm sorry girls but i'm just shocked!!!!!! OMG!!!! i can't believe these stories--i feel so bad-- meanwhile, i went through the same things, the laughing in my face and stuff--but the oranges, that's CRAZY!!!!

I met with a photographer and actually WALKED OUT. When I said my budget was $4k for photo AND video (I didn't need albums), he LAUGHED IN MY FACE!!! He said 'Honey, you're at the wrong studio. You need to check out a weddng center (he said it as if it was a dirty word)' I got up and walked out, right then and there.

Another photog kept repeating that he doesn't accept 'must take lists' because he's a professsssional and he's been at it for Xnumber of yearrrrs, blah blah blah. My FH couldn't stand him.

Another photog turned me off when I asked to make an appt, and he wanted to come to my house....he normally works out of his own house, but 'his wife was too busy at work and couldn't clean up', so he was too embarassed to have people over.

Are you kidding me?!?!

these stories are too much. my worst vendor experiences so far were with the catering halls.

the very first catering hall i went to visit was one of my top choices, until i sat down with the BM. he told me upfront that they do not negotiate prices. b/c if i don't book there at that price, another bride will!

the second horrible experience was at a hall where there are 2 different main rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. we couldn't get a good look at the room upstairs (which was for our size wedding) b/c there was a function going on. but the BM let us peek in the door. the whole upstairs smelled like smoke b/c they decided to let people smoke indoors (the weather was bad outside). it was gross!

total turnoffs for me!
