So I have been trying to plan this engagement party since we got engaged back in July and my mom said that she would take care of everything. Since then she has not done a single thing and keeps saying we have time. We were planning for April 20th, but I called one of the venues we were going to have it at and they are booked that day. My mom waited so long and it seems like she doesn't want to be a part of this. I am very upset and angry with her. I feel like I should just take over and plan it myself, but I don't want to hurt her feelings. My parents are the ones paying for it and I need their help, but they haven't done anything yet. I have gotten offers from many friends that would help me including FMIL, but my mom keeps turning them down. Any advice ladies? Sorry it is so long. Thanks!!

Have you sat down with her & told you how you feel? Sometimes hoonesty is best.

If I was you, I'd say (as nicely as possible) to your mom that you appreciate her financial support, and you'd like her to help be part of the planning process, but that you'd like to begin planning for it now. Tell her you have ideas, and want to make sure all of them can be accomplished in the time you have from now until the date, and don't want to be scrambling closer to the date. And then just plan what you can, but make sure to include her in all the plans, whether that means asking her to help or just calling her and telling her what you've done every few days.Good luck!!

agreed. I would explain that you would feel better and it would relieve some stress if you knew what was going on

I would probably just start planning things that are easily affordable for you. Maybe once she sees that you're getting anxious and want to have the party, she'll step up. FH and I intended on paying for our own engagement party, but once we started booking things, our parents started helping us pay a small portion of it.
