VENT: Someone just made me feel really bad....Am I spending to much?
I was talking about how much this wedding is costing me and someone (im not even going to go into who ) basically called me stupid (in so many words but not outright) for spending so much. She said why would I spend so much on a wedding when I dont own a house? And what if FH looses his job (not that we think he is but in the business hes in thats always a possibility). Anyway...she made me feel really bad and caused me to start second guessing all of my decisions. Did I take it to far? I feel that I have my whole like to own a house but this wedding is once in a lifetime. Houses will always be there...and even if FH looses his job(once again, not that we think this) we will both start working and though it might take a while but we will own one day. If FHs career keeps going as it is then we will own next year. I dont know...just wanted to know how you feel. I dont care about revealing my number-- its almost 100k! Yes thats 20% down on a 500k house but like I said before houses will always be around. Sorry for rambiling.

Personally - i think your budget is 100% your business! If you can afford to spend that money - than go for it!!! If it means that much to you to have that kind of wedding - DO IT and SCREW anyone who has anything to say about it!!!!!
I hope you feel a little better!!!!!!

I'm not going to lie, almost 100k is a lot of money to spend on a wedding and I personally would not do it because financially there is no way I would be able to pull that off. However, I am not one to criticize anyone's decision, a lot of people spend that much on their wedding and don't think twice about it. If you are able to do it, kudos to you. Sometimes you have to brush off the comments from the peanut gallery, who asked them anyway?

ok well first of all that person has no right making you feel bad about anything involving your wedding. second of all, that's a very large budget. if you can pull it off that's your business. it's not effecting this persons wallet, it should be of no concern to them what you guys are spending. everyone has different circumstances and we can all afford different things. if you're having your dream wedding and can financially pull it off, more power too you and take lots of pics so we can see!!!!

You've got to do what's right for you. If you can swing 100k for your wedding and buy a home later than do that. You will never be able to please everyone.
If you had done what the person had said and bought a home rather than had a wedding then someone would probably have started talking about you being too cheap to have a big wedding since you can afford it.
If you are comfortable with what you're doing then that's all that matters!! It's not like you're kicking puppies or anything, you're just planning a wedding! Enjoy it darnit

If you see that its within your budget then don't listen to that other person. Nobody knows how much you two make or how much you've spent. Everyone has their own opinions on how their wedding day should be. We are spending a lot on our wedding as well but its what we want and we know it won't run us into debt or something. Don't worry too much about other peoples' opinions because you'll be getting a lot throughout this whole planning. It's your day and you do what you want.

Wow - funny you should say that. One of the girls in my BP said that I was absurd for spending a lot on my hair dresser.
I didn't realize I had to vet all of my purchases/wedding vendors through her.
Brush it off.
Your day, your way.

awww sorry this person made u feel this way!!! i think about that sometimes too (although no1 has so rudely said it to me), but i feel u should do whatever makes you and FH happy. Its a once in a lifetime thing and the memories will last forever (i kno it sounds cheesy, but its true) so, if its what u want then i dont think u should feel guilty,

Also, I HATE when ANYONE makes a comment about money. Money is such a touchy subject - especially amongst friends.
I hate to sound like a 3rd grader, but it really comes down to jealously. Which is so lame....but there HAS to be a certain amount on envy behind the comments.

I don't think you're crazy for spending that money, but I think part of that reason is because I want to justify me spending almost as much
Honestly, I always said I would rather put my money towards a down payment but the truth is we are going to make money back on the wedding, and depending on your guests it will be about half of it or more.
You can then use THAT money towards the down payment. There are many few happy moments in our lives....one of them is our wedding...the rest all surround death and other losses....enjoy all the happy moments in your life with no regrets!
sorry my answer is so long

I think a lot of it is also people who just don't realize how much weddings cost. I find it rude when people ask how much I'm paying for vendor services (not you girls, non LIWers), but I find it even more rude when they make comments on how much I am spending. And believe me, I have not overpaid for any of my vendors, what I'm paying for everything is pretty par or below

Thats exactly how I feel...as long as im not putting my wedding on credit cards or taking out loans i dont think its a big deal. Also..Im having 400 guest! Its not like Im having 150 (nothing is wrong with this at all- but Im just explaining why my number is so high). We have alot of family and even more friends.

Everyone needs to stop worrying about other people and get a handle on their own lives.
You do you and be happy....I am not spending 100k but some people have been like spend less and put more towards a house. Owning a house is a dream I will have someday but is not priority for me right now.
There are certain people that have gotten me down or second guessing my decisions for the wedding so I have made a decision that I will tune out any negatvity or opinions that are not in line with what I want to do.
Go with your heart girl...

OMG you're on the same boat as me! Our guest list is at about 450 (huge families) and with that many guests I'm sure we'll be getting some money back. Everything is going to sound like you are spending too much because you are accommodating for more people than 'normal'. Ex. more centerpieces, favors, reception head counts, etc. Just don't worry about it. And no one needs to know how much you're spending anyways lol I've avoided answering those 'how much you spending for that?' questions among family and friends cuz I know I'll be getting that same response.
Just enjoy yourself like everyone is saying

People say that all the time to us too...about how we should be more focused on buying a house than spending $$ on our wedding (we are paying for vendors). And i always say, it's our business and this is how we are choosing to spend our money right now. I'm with you....a house will come with time. I want to remember our wedding day as the day when all of the stops were pulled out and we gave it everything we've got.

Its YOUR wedding, but 100k seems INSANE to me... If i had that kind of money to throw around, I'd still spend 40k and give the rest to a charity!

Maybe you would consider making me one of your favorite charities???
