Venue Review
I wanted to share with you the venues I visited today.1. Venetian Yacht Club, I meant with Toniann Dillon, General Manager. What a wonderful presentation she gave. First she walked us around. This venue is in Babylon which is on the bay. I was shown the outdoor space for the ceremony which was really nice, with an arbor overlooking the water. I was shown the cocktail space which was filled with windows and looking at into the water. The reception room I saw, held I believe she said 170, I have between 85-100 a beautiful room with large windows that you can see the water and bridge in the background. There is a bar space in the room, where Toni said would be high top cocktail tables and a large bar if you wanted to get away and chat (there are doors to the outdoor space with some outdoor tables. The 2nd room which was upstairs, was very large, I believe she said 300 people. Again, great big windows that are sort of curved with a really great views. The cocktail hour is held either in the smaller room (if you take the big room for your wedding). I would probably go for the smaller room and have my cocktail hour in the indoor space next to the smaller ballroom.
After the tour, Toni sat with us for at least 1 hour and explained every item in detail of the menu. Pointing out her favorite dishes. Explaining how the Executive Chef does not use frozen anything, and makes homemade pasta and is a fabulous cook. In hindsight (after 3 more place which I will review) she was the best! You get the wedding cake, and the arch for the ceremony included The hotel they recommend which is 15 minutes away has a shuttle bus for your guests to and from the hotel. Prices are reasonable.
2. Crestwood Manor, I meet with Steve, unfortunately, the room was being decorated for a Bar Mitzah, and I really could not judge the room, it was draped with black and red curtains on all the walls with Superhero pictures. The cocktail hour space was fabulous, high pitched ceiling, beautiful wood floor and bar.
3. Jericho Terrace, met with Anthony. It looks beautiful form the outside and is very pretty inside. Anthony showed us the ceremony space which was gorgeous but indoors. High domed ceiling, really pretty. The room I saw (don't know the name of it) was a smaller room. Very pretty, perfect for my guests. There was an alcove for the band or DJ, built in screens in the walls for the DJ or band to use. No windows, but an illusion of window, very nicely light. It was set up for a wedding so I got to see it dressed. Anthony proceeded to take me to this very large cocktail space. Also very pretty, but towards the back of this space is an room with a fireplace that looks like it is outdoors, but is actually indoors, that was a really, really pretty room. Anthony than gave me a tour of the kitchen (I was a bit surprised) but I was happy to see it was very very clean and organized. This night there was 3 events going on, so guest were milling around. Anthony also explained the menu via the large computer screen.
4. Rivera at Massapequa, drove up, no valet. Meet Michele in her office. She quickly shows me the outdoor space and the cocktail space (there was a wedding going on). I get to peak into the reception room. The outdoor space is very pretty, lots of places to take pictures and have your ceremony. The cocktail room was OK, you can have it outside (there are outdoor tables which was nice) or have it inside. When I peaked in the reception room, I love, loved it. But really could not get a good look as the bride was there taking picture. Now my interaction with Michele, she was nice, but not informative. She gave me prices, and I asked for the menu which she handed me the brochure which was the menu, and did not mention one word about the food. I think if she was that uninterested and almost aloof, how would the wedding be. It makes me think that the food is not the important thing at the wedding. But truth be told, the room is really pretty, if you like a rustic barn type wedding. I only hoped she would have been more interested in the food she was serving her guests. I really really wanted to consider this place, but my husband said NO!
I want to mention, 1,2 and 3 said they would do a tasting. The Rivera said I had to leave 500.00 to hold the date and than taste the food the food huh...... I am assuming if you didn't like the food, she would return your deposit.
Any questions feel free to ask.
