Video or no video?

Video or no video?

I've pretty much decided against videography but some people tell me 'oh you'll regret it'. I've known people who got married without a video and they don't regret it. Any thoughts? Anyone regret not having video? Anyone regret HAVING video?

I don't like video because it may make me too nervous and self consciuos...I don't want a camera on me when I'm dancing, I'm such a bad dancer anyway.

My mom said it's better to use the extra money I'd save by not doing video like on the honeymoon...well, his family's paying for that, but with the extra $1500 we could do a lot of shopping.

Those are just my cons...unless someone can convince me otherwise.

There were MANY things we did not get to see or even know that happened until we saw our video. It was great to see everyone having a great time and hearing all the things people were saying on that day. Many things were funny too. I'm very glad we got it.

The day goes by so quickly that before you realize it it's over. Via the video you will be able to relive your special day.

My wedding day was a total blur! Everyone tells you the day will go fast - but it goes crazy fast!!! I am totally relying on the video and my pictures to paint the whole picture for me.

Our video guys were totally unobtrusive. Just get someone who understands what you want/don't want.

Good Luck.

Exact reason why we're getting a videographer! Also, most of our married friends who never had one have regretted it.

I want to be able to sit down with my FI/DH years down the road to watch our video together....to me, that's special :)

Definitely getting it, wasn't even a question for me. I want to see all the things I'll miss when the day passes by so fast. And I know when the day is over, I'll want to relive it by watching the video.

I don't think I'm going to have the money for one, and my wedding is going to be pretty small (about 70 people) so I assume I'll see most of it. I don't have an extra $1000 in my budget, so I'm going to ask a friend to use a camcorder for the ceremony, and maybe here and there during the reception. I'm fine with that - i'd like to be able to watch the ceremony with my kids one day, but I don't need music edited over it or fancy fade-ins and fade-outs.

There are budget vendors that will give you just that, raw film and you would get to see your days from a different perspective.

I am not having a video.

Main reason, my sister had one for her wedding.........and she NEVER watched it, plus it was expensive, and came out pretty crappy anyway.

once I started to watch it, but got bored after 5 minutes, and as it turned out I ended up sending, well, some very tipsy love, that is now on video for all to see.

Consider an alternative, just having a friend (with a camera) record the ceremony.

save money, and feel less guilty about the cost of your dress!

We didn't have video, don't regret it either. Couples I know that have had video never watched it more than once. It will just sit on the shelf and collect dust.
It's really a personal preference. If you think you'll watch it over and over than get it.
I look at my pictures all the time, so I'm spending the extra money on photographer.

There are so many things that happen on your wedding day that you may not see or realize happen.

It gives you a chance to relive your vows to one another and see people's expressions as you are staring at your husband at the ceremony!

I wasn't going to do a video, but I am so glad I did - I get to see my family having a great time and sharing their advice during interviews, and I get to see what happened behind the scenes....and honestly, I never noticed our videographer (just the photographer).

I was MAJORLY anti-video but I had a gift for my DH that I wanted to get on video so last minute I booked it. I told him DO NOT FILM PEOPLE DANCING or EATING. He was great, he just stood back and kind of captured the day without being in our face at all. BOTH of us were so against it but now we're both so glad we did it. I would READ these SAME threads before I booked video with everyone saying 'you'll regret it...' I was thinking 'no I won't...' but it's not that I would REGRET it if I didn't have a video, I'm just glad that I HAVE a video. Just be really specific with your videographer if you get one, tell him (like I did) NO filming of people dancing or interviews or anything like that.

I love our video - the day went so fast and I couldn't remember anything. Its so great to be able to 'relive' the day!

We weren't going to get one b/c DH didn't want it AT ALL. Then he realized there would be stuff going on (getting ready etc) that he wouldn't see without the video and changed his mind.

Our first dance was choreographed. DH is chomping at the bit to see it.

I know Vinny started playing Sugar, Sugar for the cake cutting b/c I remember hearing the first few measures of music - and then my mind goes blank. I want to see and hear the rest of it. The same thing with the song immediately following the cake cutting. I remember hearing it start, and then my mind kind of goes blank.

Once the reception itself started the memories I have are snapshots. Just a bit or piece here and there. There is a whole bunch of stuff people have told me about that I didn't see, either because I was dancing facing a different direction, I was talking with a guest and looking at their face instead of looking around the room etc. The video will enable me to recapture lost moments, and see others for the first time.

I think video is great!!! Cause the day happends so fast. And there are times that your not able to see everything that is gong on so the video will capture all those moments in your day

I honeslty hardly remember the day!
I cant wait to get the video and be reminded of stuff and see things I would have otherwise missed.
Plus, the videographer will likely be unnoticeable.

I barely noticed mine.

I would go with the video. FH and I were against it at first because of the cost, but we were able to get it as part of our photography package and are now looking forward to having it.

We're not getting a video either, and neither one of us want one. Neither of my brothers had one and neither of them (nor their wives) regret it.

It's just not something I ever wanted. I don't have any real reason for it except I just don't want one.

The funny thing is that I studied film in college and was a videographer! I've filmed and edited countless weddings! (And now do something not even remotely related to that!)

Re: Video or no video?

I was dead set against getting it. I hate when they go to the different tables and put the mic in your face. But my mom and fmil really, really want one. I told my mom I was not wasting my money on it. So she said fine your father and I will pay for it. I made sure before booking that they will follow my instructions on not to talk to people. So my mom won this battle but I won the battle for ceremony location
