Video or no video?

Original post by songwriterchic

I've pretty much decided against videography but some people tell me 'oh you'll regret it'. I've known people who got married without a video and they don't regret it. Any thoughts? Anyone regret not having video? Anyone regret HAVING video?

I don't like video because it may make me too nervous and self consciuos...I don't want a camera on me when I'm dancing, I'm such a bad dancer anyway.

My mom said it's better to use the extra money I'd save by not doing video like on the honeymoon...well, his family's paying for that, but with the extra $1500 we could do a lot of shopping.

Those are just my cons...unless someone can convince me otherwise.

I would 100% say get the video. You cannot be everywhere at once and so many things go on during the day that you either didn't see at all or don't remember because the day was such a blur. You don't need to invest big money on a video, but IMO you should have some form of video as record of your special day. One day you can sit down and show it to your children and that is very special. Like the other girls said if you are against them interviewing people etc, just tell the videographer not to do it. I believe the video is worth it in the end - you are already spending lots of money and it is one of the few things you still have after the day is over.

I have heard so many people say they regret not getting the video. There were so many things that happened that I never got to see. So many I can go back and watch. Some of our older relatives have passed on and I get to see them alive and happy, dancing, talking, living, on our video. This is priceless to me.

When we watched it we got to re-live the day all over again. My videographer even came to where we did our photos before the ceremony and got some real great out-takes of the photo shoot with the photographer. We had a great time and we get to have that forever.

I think if you get it you won't regret it, but if you don't you might.

PS a Videpgrapher that's in your face is a no-no. Get one that's discreet and professional. It's worth it.

Im not getting the video. I just don't want to spend the extra 1000. Im going to have someone use my videocamera for the ceremony. My pics are coming on a DVD that plays music in the background (Twelfth night!!!). That will be my video

I wasn't sure if i was going to get one either... but we've sine decided to get a video once we saw the samples from differernt videograhpers. they are not cheesy and depending on who you go with, will make it look comepltely professional. the guy we booked, his videos are like documentaries...they are so awesome.

we are on a very tight budget, but we ended up getting te video for a few reasons:
1. everyone says the wedding will be a complete blur... i will like to have the video to relive the day.
2. i am sentimental: one day i want to show the video to my children and let them see mommy and daddy on their wedding day. also, my parents aren't in the best of health....because of the video, i will always have the dance with my dad, etc. etc. when they're gone, i will always have the video and will be able to show my children their grandparents, etc. life is too short.... why not film a special day like a wedding if it's an option for you?

we made it affordable by cuttign other things out that dont matter to us (i.e. flowers) cut out something that's not that important and put it towards the video.

we decided to get a video at the last minute and are both happy we did, including DH who really did not want to.

Since a few people have mentioned this, you can ask your videographer not to 'interview' your guests. We like that our video just recorded what was going on, without that stuff, anyways

I was in the same position - decided against a video and everyone was telling me to re-consider. I'm SOOO glad we did! We used Wild Rose and they were amazing. They are true artisits and capture much more than you would have ever expected. Memories of the day will come flooding back when you see your video. Honestly, they were amazing to work with. I was nervous about them being intrusive but we hardly knew they were there. If you can swing it financially, I would urge you to reconsider :) Hope that helps.

Re: Video or no video?

100% I would recommend getting a video-for many of the same reasons other people mentioned... The day goes by so quickly...photos and video are the one things left after all is done-besides memories!

There will be people on your video who might not be here in years to come and you would want to show them to your children

videos do not have to be all that expensive- mine was 1250 and in the whole scheme of wedding planning-another 1000 or so will not break most banks

could you possibly regret NOT getting one-YES
but how many people can say they got one and they regret it?

I have already watched mine 5 or 6 times and I have had it a month. I would watch it more if I could. I love it! And after the 'novelty' of it wears off ...we may only watch it once a year-our anniversary-BUT how special it will be when we do!

I was dead set against getting it. I hate when they go to the different tables and put the mic in your face. But my mom and fmil really, really want one. I told my mom I was not wasting my money on it. So she said fine your father and I will pay for it. I made sure before booking that they will follow my instructions on not to talk to people. So my mom won this battle but I won the battle for ceremony location

a lot of videographers do not do interviews anymore.... unless you want it. None of the places I looked at had the 'cheese' factor I once saw in my cousins' wedding videos.

My video is with such class, I love it!

You wont regret it!

I would get a video. It is a great thing to have for many reasons. Four months after our wedding DH's uncle was killed, after that DH's aunt passed away and 8 months ago my mom passed away and because of my video I have wonderful memories of all of them at my wedding and having a wonderful time.

Your wedding day will fly by so quickly that you will miss so many things. I left the room for a few minutes because I was having problems with my bustle and I missed my uncle getting groovy on the dance floor. Friends that attended my wedding are still coming up to me talking about it months after my wedding. There are so many things going on that you will surely miss things. I think the video is a great way to revisit your day and relive the magic! In my opinion, it was as necessary as having a wedding dress.

ps- I just bumped a post on the NEWLYWED board...a bride wishing she had a video-even though her proofs are beautiful...

Re: Video or no video?

I vote get a video.

A few of our video clips are here

We have watched our wedding video about 50 times and we sent copies to family and members of the bridal party. DH's 93 year old grandma was not able to fly up to attend but she got to see the video. DH's aunts watch it all the time (and they were at the wedding) and they call us whenever they put in the video My dad has taken the video all over town to show friends/family members that could not make the wedding. It's not just about you and your DH reliving the day - which is great - but also about sharing your day with friends and family that could not attend. And of course later showing it to your future children

I am a HUGE picture person and DH is a HUGE video person so we got both. DH is fine with not having our album done since he is so in love with the video. Of course, I cannot wait to get our 10 x 15 magazine style album in my hands

As Darlene mentioned, you will remember clips from the day but there will be blanks that a video can fill in. I recall hearing the first few notes of my entrance song but I was so focused on DH as I walked down the aisle that I did not even hear the song. I saw a post the other day asking what was the last song played and I could not remember - had to go to the video.

Having the video and watching it once or twice is better than not having the video and regretting it

Re: Video or no video?

absolutely positively get it!!! i LOVE my video and have watched it several times. i love reliving certain parts, like our vows, first dance, etc. and there were so many things i never saw until i saw the video!!

videographers are not in your face--i didn't even know he was there. believe me, you won't be worried about being filmed--people are taking your picture ALL DAY LONG!! and you don't notice until they tell you to smile.

i would have regretted it 100% if i DIDN'T get one.

Re: Video or no video?

A coworker told me that she was glad she had a wedding video because her little girl would always ask her to 'see the video where mommy is a princess'. I think that's so sweet---- but I'm probably opting for someone to record the ceremony with their camera.

I've also heard from married couples that they havent looked at the video since they got married and its been years!

Re: Video or no video?

i said the same thing before all this planning...i really didnt see why we should pay for a video we'll only watch once...but fh said but there are gonna be sooo many things that we dont see that it would be awesome if we could see it on video....and as morbid as this sounds a friend said its nice to have a video of older family members like grandparents so when they pass u can see/hear them every now and again

Re: Video or no video?

We are not getting a video either. We just felt like we want to to remember it the way we do...not from someone elses stand point.

Hope that makes sense!

ETA: We also hired an amazing potog who will be able to fill in the pieces that we may miss.

I am getting a video. There was no hesitation for me on that issue. I want to be able to remember this day for the rest of my life and also be able to show my children the video one day this way they can see when mommy and daddy officially started their lives together.

Also, you will have memories of a lifetime on a video. When you watch it again, years down the road, you can see all your relatives and friends who will have passed on and will have seen them enjoying themselves.

My vote is YES for video!!!!!!! I've gone back to watch my friends wedding videos and it's soooo nice to be able to relive that day!!!!!!! You can show it to your children someday too, it's such a wonderful keepsake!!!! You can have a videographer and ask him not to be in your face all the time! I would really do it!!!!!
