Videographer - Sales Tax???/
Is a videographer supposed to charge sales tax. I also live out of state. Are they supposed to charge me sales tax? I was just wondering since it sounds like a service.

If you want to pay in cash, you may be able negotiating no sales tax. Some vendors will do that for you

I asked them the same question.. it's for the tapes etc... you are getting something, so sadly, they have to charge you tax.

Yup! I'm paying sales tax. Last time I paid cash and didn't get charges tax, my vendor skipped town.

I'm paying sales tax. I was told that if I paid in cash, there would be no sales tax. However, I was very uncomfortable sending a large amount of cash in the mail, so I sent a check and will be charged sales tax.

Yes, legally they are suppose to charge you sales tax. Some vendors include this all in their price and others add it on as a separate item. The vendor is definitely paying sales tax to NYS though, they are tough. And it does not matter if you live out of state or not. How'd you like that 20% service charge for NY??? Ouch!

Re: Videographer - Sales Tax???/
This sounds like a grey area. Tax is supposed to be charged on a tangable item. Correct? If that's the case tax should only be charged to the video tapes and not the labor. Tapes cost $4. Try e-mailing Stan Wiest on the vendor board. He seems to thrive on this kind of gossupWelcome New Vendors
