Videography - A must or can I skip it? What are you doing?

Original post by msserene

I am finally getting around to selecting a photographer. So far it looks like I will dish out slightly more than I expected. I have found cheaper prices but I always said this is one area that I am willing to invest in.

Of course now this has impacted my overall budget. I initially wanted to include videography but the prices are around 2K. Is it worth it? I am torn on what to do.

Do you think this is a MUST or can I skip it? What are you doing?

Im having a family member tape my ceremony, first dance, parent dances and cake cutting.

I dont see myself watching the video frequently enough to want to pay for it.. thats just me though.

my sister made me get one because she said it is the best memory she has of her wedding.

I originally didn't want one, then I spoke with a family friend who is a videographer and said that we are going to want to get the important parts of the day like the church, first dance, parent dances etc. Then, my mom spoke with a friend and her daughter didn't have one and regrets it completely...now thinking about it I am happy I changed my mind and am going to have one. I told him what I want and don't want on the video..for example the mic being passed around for everyone to speak.

Also, my aunt says that my uncle and her watch it sometimes and her kids get a kick out of seeing all the cousins and how young we were at the wedding etc.
