I hate speaking in front of people! Wait, I can give that job to my FH. Yeah, that's what I will do! Tell he has to write the Thank you Speech!

I'm not planning on having one! I haven't seen it either at any of the weddings I've been to in the past few years either (and I've been to a lot!)

I hope not bc I didn't do this! LOL

We took photos before the ceremony and I did an impromtu thank you to my bridal party, some of my favorite pics are from this.

We fully intended to, because I don't have a problem with speaking in front of people, but we completely forgot!

I've never been to a wedding where the bride and groom did a thank you speech.

we're going to do one - mainly because 75% of our guests are flying in from out of the country or halfway across the country. we thought it would be nice of us to tell them how much we appreciate their efforts.

It is so rarely done, but in all honesty, I think it is very appropriate, especially if you aren't planning on visiting every table (too time consuming!)

If you invited people to your house, you would thank them for coming, wouldn't you?

SIL didn't visit tables OR make an announcement and I think it was a little rude IMO.

Do it and get it over with, not enough people do. It only takes a minute....

For that reason, it's a great idea!!! I've been dreading going to every table! Someone else suggested a receiving line at the end of the reception, kind of to say goodbye to people and thank them for coming!

me too! i think it's nice. but it has to be timed right. last time i went to a wedding that had a TY speech---the groom was hammered by the end and he slurred a bit and thanked his friends for being his boys and being there for him 'thru ups and down, sideways, bi-ways...' and the whole room erupted into laughter

My very charming DH did it and got a lot of laughs and applause from the crowd. He thanked everyone for coming from everywhere (yes, he named almost every state and country that people traveled from). He also apologized to me for being a pain in the a** during the planning process. And he told everyone that the whole wedding was because of me......I thought it was really sweet.

I think it is very appropriate to thank everyone, some traveled from far places and it means a lot.

That's a good idea, but not everyone leaves at the same time, you'll be there FOREVER!!!!! They will come to you to say goodbye, but a lot of my guests really liked that we made the announcement, because they DEFINITELY would have talked if we didn't do anything!!

We did it while dinner was just finishing up and everyone was still seated. We also gave a dozen roses to both of our moms, thanking them for their support through the planning and our whole lives....that was very important for us to do....we're such momma's kids!!!

My dad did one. He just introduced himself as Beth's dad and wanted to thank everyone for coming, etc. Then DH and I went and talked to everyone at all the tables (and we talked to a lot of people at the CH).

i wouldnt consider it a speech really

i've seen it done ( and plan on following this) right after the BM speech the bride and groom thank him for his speech - and then just say Thanks everyone for sharing in our day - we hope you have a great time. . . .thats all

well thats all we are saying - and we have to get it over quick before FH gets sloshed!

We did not do one & no one said anything. That is what the cards are for, right?

We did do a thank you at the RD.

I would love to this but FH gets way too nervous in front of a lot of people, he even suggested we sit at a regular table (with family/guests!) I was like no freakin way!

I wonder if it would look bad if we both stood and I did most of the talking?

No, it's not necessary.

DH did take the Mic at the very end of the wedding to just thank everyone for sharing our day with us. But it wasn't really a speech, and it was pretty impromptu.

It's not an actual speech, so you could do all the talking....
