Re: Wanting a dog
getting a dog was the best decision FH and I ever made - it brought us closer together in so many ways bc we just both fell in love with this creature
i always say if we didnt have a dog he would have never proposed - bc he changed our relationship THAT much . . . it forced us to do things together instead of just sit around and watch TV. . . and he once swallowed rat poison and we stayed up the whole night with him and it really is like having a kid sometimes!!!! i love seeing how in love with Brutus he is - like he doesnt even care if people are around he is completely infatuated!!
plus when we are mad he licks are faces and we cant help but laugh! ( the dog not fh! lol)

seriously that is SOOOO cute!!
i have mentioned getting a dog for similar reasons, but we have 2 cats and a small apartment, so we'll have to wait and see when we get a house.

Dogs are great and they really give you a glimpse at how difficult having a child could and will be. But don't get a dog just to see if you're going to be able to handle children because what if you decide that taking care of a dog is too much therefore so will taking care of a child... then what do you do with the dog???

totally agree - i wouldnt get a dog just for any one reason - a dog is a living thing and you should just get one because you want one and you are able to love him/ her and take care of him/her!
i was just listing all the wonderful benefits that may come from getting a dog!

Matilde, I agree... having Cooper has totally changed mine and Aaron's relationship, we're a little family now AAAAAAND we know that we can handle children!
ETA: We're just so afraid that we could never love a child as much as we love Cooper.. isn't that terrible!!??

No it isnt terrible bc i know what you mean!! When our nieces and nephews pull on Brutus' ears or poke him in the eye he just walks away but we want to punch those little buggers in the face!!!! Our parents yell at us all the time for taking Brutus' side over the babies! But he just wants to play, they are the ones being mean!
Also, it is SCARY to think that we could love something more than him. The first few nights we got him (he had terrible kennel cough), and again when he ate the rat poison. . . we both slept on the floor with him. . .and i basically cried throught the night and ant didnt sleep either - we just stared at him praying that he would get better! I can't even imagine what that will be like with a kid!
But he will definitely NOT be pushed to the side when we have a baby. . .he will always be our first

Matilde!! I had some of the worst dreams about Cooper last night... basically I woke up crying... He's our world and I don't even care what people say or think when they hear us talking about him or to him.... he's our baby and he'll always be our baby.... he does want a sister though (a puppy not a baby!!!)

I can't even THINK about anything happening to Brutus! Our dog drowned a few months before we got Brutus and it was the hardest thing that we ever had to deal with. . . ugh i can't even think about it - our poor Juno RIP
Brutus wants a sister too - Sweet Pea (keeping with the Popeye theme!)

Re: Wanting a dog
Having a dog also brought the FH and I closer together...there are so many things that happen once you find your little addition to the family! I can't tell you the nightmare we went through for 2 months, with the crying in the middle of the night and the poop all over the apartment! The smell is not of this Earth! But all in all they are amazing little friends with lots of love to give! Phinny loves to give hugs and sleep between FH and I underneather the covers, head on pillow... See my pics for what you can expect from yours!! And if you can, try to adopt...there are so many lonely dogs out there without homes. It makes me so sad..
