We have to postpone the wedding.

You never think it could happen to you, it seems like it only happens to other people, or on tv.

Two weeks ago FH's father was checking the vent on the roof at his job. It seems as if he had a stroke and fell of the building. He broke two of his vertebre and was hemoraging from the brain. His is in a trauma ICU unit and they have him under heavy sedation. We don't know what effects the stroke will have, if there is brain damage or if he will even be able to walk. At first we thought he may be able to attend in a wheel chair, but that was before we understood the severity of the situation. Since his parents live in Florida, his mom wouldn't even be able to come to the wedding because she couldn't leave his dad in a hospital all alone to come to New York.

FH says there is nothing to celebrate and he can't even think of having this wedding with out his parents being present. After 1 year of planning, we are postponing our wedding less than a month before the day.

I am heart-broken.

tara - my heart is simply breaking for you. I know how much work you put into this and I simply cannot imagine your disappointment - not to mention the sadness you must have for your FH and his family.

There are no words of wisdom, no words of advice to take away your pain. However...one thing I know for sure. You two have the chance to practice'for better or for worse' before that long walk down the aisle. Everything in this world happens for a reason. All of it. My guess is this terrible turn will work to bring your families closer and your FH and you even closer than before. It sounds like the ingredients for a long and loving life together when it's all said and done. Keep your chin up and your spirit solid. Your husband (and that is what he is in your heart and all of ours) is going to need you.

I don't even know what to say Tara. I feel awful for you. What did your FH's mother say? I hope your FFIL comes thru this okay. Strokes are very scary but often people do recover and live a very full, normal life.
Will you lose most of your money if you postpone? Many vendors will just put your deposits on credit until you re-plan. Please let us know if we can help you with any of that stuff. You have so much on your plate right now.
I am sure your FH is just has heartbroken over this and very worried about his father.
What can we do Tara to help?
