Wearing white to someone's wedding???

Original post by Cacarina

I was at a wedding this weekend and there were several people wearing white and they were not the bride. One girl was wearing a white dress that was even whiter than the brides dress. It didn't even have a pattern, just stark white! I can't believe people are so clueless...how do you NOT realize that its just not right!?

How would you react if someone wore white to YOUR wedding?? Personally, I probably wouldn't even notice, but as a guest at someone else's wedding I noticed it and this girl just looked stupid.

I don't know if these people are jealous of the attention, don't care, or just clueless.... I think it's kind of rude but if it were me I would just shrug it off. I mean, you are the bride, noone is going to upstage you.

didnt notice it day of, but in looking at some non-pro pix i think 2 people might have worn white dresses? they arent people i know well (probably wives of my parents friends?) and it certainly didnt take away from me at all

if they did wear white i think it's poor taste, and while i have a great ivory dress from our RD i won't wear it to any weddings

dont mind our faces in these pix...

I don't know, I don't think it would bother me if someone wore white to my wedding-it isn't like they are going to get mistaken for the bride. The only way I would get mad is if it was like my Mom or MIL that did it.
I wore this dress to my cousins wedding. However, knowing how brides can be sensitive about it, I asked her (and showed her a pic of the dress) before I even bought it.

Hopefully I would just not notice or care. There are a lot of people out there that just don't get it (FH was helping me shop for a dress to wear to a wedding a few months ago and even he kept pointing out white dresses!). I think it would be pretty obvious that I am the bride though

I once wore a white dress with a black lace overlay to a wedding. It also had a thick black band under the chest. It never even occurred to me that the predominant color was white until I watched the wedding video and realized that the lace overlay really didn't show up on camera and it looked like i had on a white dress. I felt really bad, but it was unintentional. I was squirming every time the video was on me, looking at the bride to see some sort of reaction, but she didn't seem to notice. I had on black shoes if that makes it any better. Oh well, either way I felt bad and it was an accident...wonder what she'll wear to my wedding! I will definitely be more careful next time!

an acquaintance was in one of her friend's wedding a few years ago and I was surprised that the bride's mom wore white... and i mean WHITE... it looked like a wedding dress.... but it was her mom so I guess she didn't care or just kept her mouth shut. I thought it very strange though.

I had a guest and her date both show up in white. She wore a white dress with black trim and he wore full white linen suit.
I said 'oh no they didn't' but quickly got over it.

Honestly, you wouldn't believe how many people really don't know this 'rule'.

ive seen at least one person wear white to the last couple weddings i went to. the only attention they got was negative attention...pretty much everyone was talking badly about them!!!!

i probably wouldnt even notice if someone wore white to my wedding, im sure its the last thing on your mind the day of your wedding!

just dont even worry about it, your guests will give them enough dirty looks to make them feel bad

I also probably wouldn't notice what other people were wearing (maybe not after this post tho )

I am so paranoid I go as far as finding out the bridal party colors and steering clear of them as well! I def wouldn't want anybody to take offense to what I wore!
