After tax and hollow to hem, my dress came out to $1800. But it was $1400 before that- only $400 over budget.

Cindy, if mom's paying and didn't set a limit to start, or this falls within the initial limit she set, then go for it. It's your dress, and it's a gift. I'm not saying to take advantage... if you want, you can offer to pay something towards it if it's a little more than she wanted to spend... but if you're in love with it, get it. Srsly. You've had some time to sleep on it and you still love it, so do it!

PS, I think 3K would def be my TOPS limit including alterations... but everyone's financial situation is different.

My mom is paying for my dress and she told me she would like to keep at no more than $2000 total (that's with alterations). Right now it's looking like my dress is going to come in around $1800 with everything so it worked out well.

My dress was a gift from my grandmother. Her and I spoke a bit about a 'budget' before we went out. Basically we were both looking to keep the cost down, but if we found something that we loved than that was that. I ended up with a $3200 dress. When I asked the sales person how much it was and she told me I glanced at my grandma and she gave me one of these She was in love and so was I. Can't put a price on the feeling.

yeah it all depends.

The dress i want is 5400, but considering FH and I are upto a 50K budget at the moment with NO help, i needs to cut cost somewhere. So im going to try and keep my dress budget at 2K

my grandma is paying for my dress and I promised I wouldnt go over $2000. I didnt even know the price of my gown till I went to put the deposit on it. I cam WAY under even with the alterations. the gown itself was $900.

If Mom is buying gift as a present... the SKI IS THE LIMIT

my mom is buying my dress, and we already established a budget based on her financial situation. i chose the $1500 option above because that is what my mom can afford. i think it all depends on what your mom can afford!

My Mom paid for my gown and I wanted to be financially considerate considering she is also paying for our flowers.

My gown is $1200 (alterations included)which I think is still too much but I'm self proclaimed cheap...

I haven't even started looking at dresses!!! But that is one thing I have to pay for. My mom thinks I should buy my own dress. So we shall see....

Re: Wedding Dress.. How much is too much???

My dad paid for my dress- he actually cut me a check for $ 4K thinking that most wedding gowns cost that much. I ended up finding a dress I loved at DB for much less ($600) and realistically, didn't really like the dresses that were 3K and over (too flashy for me, and I hate the 'pick up' style on the skirt part of most gowns now).

I ended up using the 3K balance on other stuff like favors, DJ add ons and RH add ons.

It really depends on your situation, I think some WE TV wedding show featured a bride stating her wedding gown budget was $16K..Of course, if you are rich and can afford that - kudos to you...but I think most people forget that the dress is worn for a max of 12-24 hours and then afterward, it sits in your closet gathering dust!! Is 5-20K really worth it when you can use it toward something good like a downpayment on a dream house???

Re: Wedding Dress.. How much is too much???

My parents bought my dress. Initially she told me no more then $2000. I ended up picking a dress that was 1100 but was being discontinued and we ended up getting it for $600. Im also getting another dress, but I'll still be way under $2000. I know if I fell in love with something $3000 they would end up paying for it but since they also paid for both of my sisters maid of honor dresses I really wanted to respect they $2000 budget. I agree with a few of the other ladies on here and say you should just ask how much they really are willing to pay and try to respect it.
