Just wondering what each of you were paying for your wedding gowns.
I'm torn between 2 gowns, a $708 Private Label gown and a $2,500 Scaasi gown. Big price difference between the two, but I can't make up my mind.
I wasn't sure if $2,500 was a lot to spend on just the dress. I still need a headpiece, veil, shoes, etc.
Thanks ladies!

Re: Wedding gown budget
Bought my gown from a Michelle Roth Sample Sale for $350.00, originally over $3000.00. BTW, they are having another sample sale in July, if you are interested check her website for dates. Alterations cost $350.00 too but I had to have the look of the dress completely different. Shoes from Nicole Miller for $35.00, bought it when the store in Manhasset closed. Still need petticoat, veil and headpiece. I didn't have a budget but hopefully i won't spend more $1000.00.

Re: Wedding gown budget
I bought my gown for $470 (a Mori Lee). I absolutely love it and it's exactly what I wanted. However, the alterations are costing me a pretty penny ($210!). I say that if you love the expensive dress and you can afford it, definitely buy it. But maybe try and see if they will cut a deal and include alterations with that price or something.

Re: Wedding gown budget
I am paying 830.00 for my gown, headpiece and alterations. I got my dress from burtons for a lot cheaper than I saw the dress at macys.

Re: Wedding gown budget
$285 Mori Lee from Netbride.com does not include alterations, but am thinking only the hemline.
I am a second time, 42 year old bride, home owner, paying for everything ourselves. I cannot see spending over 500 on a dress I wear for 5 hours. I would rather put any spare cash towards payment on a second floor of my home. Or towards the closing costs of refinancing. Or a new camper.....or maybe a boat. they all last a lot longer. Not very romantic, but kind of practical
But.......to each his own. Best of luck to you all

Re: Wedding gown budget
Dress $800 Headpiece and veil $135
I can't see paying that much for a dress that you wear 5 hours either but again that is my opinion and you should make yours according to what you feel, what you like, and the dress that you know is the one! If you want to splurge on the dress then go for it!
Good Luck!

Re: Wedding gown budget
I absolutely fell in love with my dress (Reem Acra) and had to have it when i saw it. It was $3,200 but I have never regretted it for an instant. I know it is only one day and all but it's absolutely perfect and over the months I have said to myself more times than i can count that i was happy i bought it and how much i love it. My tiara and veil costs $800 but i only paid half. I am trying to save costs in other areas to make up for it.

Re: Wedding gown budget
I agree with Gracejilly. It is just my opinion but, I cannot see spending thousands of dollars on a dress that I will only wear once!!! I plan to spend approx. $500 on a dress. I like very simple dresses with no beading, etc. so I think that I will luck out. I actually might even end up buying a white bridesmaid dress...I've seen one from Watters & Watters that I absolutely love and it costs under $300! I am paying for everything (including my dress) 100% on my own so I can't afford to spend a ton of money on a dress, when I could use the money to pay for a videographer!

I agree with Sonicstef also. While i know some people think i'm nuts to spend that much money on a dress for one day, it's something that made me feel truly like a princess and i really do think it was worth every penny.

Re: Wedding gown budget
I think it is unfair to say it is crazy to spend over XX on a gown for only 5 hours. Let's all be honest here- we are all crazy for spending so much on our weddings in the first place. BUT we should all respect the other person's decision to do so. Some people think I am crazy for spending $5K on a photographer but that same person might spend $8K on a band. In the end we all have to do what we can afford and what makes us happy that day.

Re: Wedding gown budget
Welly mine was 5 grand - that's right TONS AND TONS of MOOLAH!!! But ya know what? I took dj over band to make up for the cost and I am so excited to get into that gown. It's my costume for the most important day of my life. And I want to feel beautiful - call me sentimental - and on another note? My girlfriend wore a $150 dress and looked like an angel, so - it can go either way! It's all about your own priorities!

Thanks Jenny!
It looks like everyone is spending a different amount and as long as you are happy with your dress, that's all that counts.

Re: Wedding gown budget
Everybody has a different budget and different opinions about their weddings, but I don't think it's fair or nice to say that if someone's dress doesn't cost more then $2,000, that it is made of polyester. We don't know what everybody's story is and what they can and can't afford. One person might think it's a lot for a dress, but then might spend $$$$$ on a band or whatever. As gracejilly said 'to each her own'.
The post was asking what the budget was and that's what everyone was doing, and as usual with these posts, people add their opinions. From what I read, there was nothing said that would bring about a nasty remark like that. As a matter of fact, all the posts that voiced their opinion on the price, said that they wouldn't do it, but if you could afford it, way to go!!
Just remember that eveyrone is entitled to her own opinion and it's not nice to knock another one if their opinion isn't the same as yours!
Oh and by the way, my dress cost $720 (plus alterations) and the headpiece $150 (w/veil). I didn't go w/a budget in mind, this just happened to be the dress that I fell in love with and was the ONE and then when I saw the price, it made it even better!! LOL :)
And I agree with Karen62794, as long as YOU'RE happy with your dress, that's the ONLY thing that counts!!!!!
