wedding gown shopping
Ok, I dont even know where to begin. Can anybody recommend a good place to start shopping for a wedding gown? I tried David's Bridal and it was too hectic fo me. I also went to Bridal suite in huntington (they seem good), but any other recommendations would be so appreciated. Also, how soon before the wedding should I be dress shopping? (I am not getting married until April 2003) Thanks for the help!

Try Jessica Mcclintock in Roosevelt Field. That's where I just ordered my dress from and it will be delivered to my house in 2 weeks. Of course, the store is not only a bridal dress store, but they have a big selection. They also have flower girl dresses, and it's probably where we'll get those too. The prices are very reasonable and I love her styles. The only thing is that they don't do alterations. Go to www.jessicamcclintock.com before you go, and look at the selection. I did, and tried on 20 of the dresses that I liked from online pictures!!! It was so much fun! Good luck.

christy...one more thing
When you place the order depends on where you buy the dress, I've heard some bridal stores take a few months. I got lucky w/ JM (2 weeks). Anyway, it won't hurt to start looking now, so you can get what you want. But, styles will change, and for next spring the styles won't be out yet. Also, it's possible that certain styles will be discontinued by then.

I actually got my dress at Macy's in the Smithhaven mall. It was the 1st one I saw and the 2nd one I tried on. I checked around at some other places, but loved the personal service and prices at Macy's. Peggy is the bridal consultant I used. She is wonderful. But I would suggest that since you have time, shop arround and go with whomever you feel comfortable with. Macy's was not the lowest price I was quoted (the lowest was $100 less) but I felt more comfortable with the way Macy's took care of me. It is worth the extra money to feel confident that they will do a great job. (I don't think $100 is such a big deal anyway when it comes down to service, more $ off and I would have to think about it longer)

Bridal Suite Centereach is great
Ask for Debbie. She was a great help and really knew her stuff. She also gave me a great price for my gown, headpiece and veil. You can NEGOTIATE for your dress prices at most places too. Just be careful about Bridal Suite in Patchogue. It is NOT owned by the same people and many of the brides here have posted very negative comments. In fact, my Bridal Suite has signs saying that is it not affliated with the other one. Have a great time, try on dresses that you are not sure about because they always look different one, keep an open mind and have fun. I even tried on a few dresses just for the fun of it. I knew that I did not want a tulle dress but tried on one anyway, just to see. I figured, it was the only time I was ever going to be doing this so I might as well enjoy it!!!

Oh my Gosh, don''t even get me started with how horrible there bridesmaids cottage is. I ordered a dress for a military ball I was going too and it took 6 trips out there to have my fitting properly, I ended up settleting and having the owner of addriene''s hand deliever my gown to my house and by the way she was an hour in a half late with no call to my house and due to that I had to run out quickly to get milk from dairy barn before they closed (LOL) and when I came back my father said she came and just gave it to him and left.. I wore the dress for the ball it cost over 200 not including horrible alterations and a poor hem. My hem was off, the back of the dress was longer, my zipper wasen''t in the middle of my back, they sewed my red chiffon dress with black thread, I had holes in it from where they stiched it improperly! It was insane, and a dress I loved, now had me in tears. There Alterations women suck! Please take your dress and have it done else where if it is for your MOH or BM''s. I am also in a wedding this spring which we ordered our dresses through them (which is the reason I ordered my Ball dress there) and all of us girls took our dresses elsewhere. When I spoke to the girls who worked there told me the alterations are luck of the draw and that they know a few of the women are horrible but it depends on every other customer (I dunno about you, but what kinda crap is that..) My friend ordered her dress from there and they have different ladies for bridal so she is having the alterations done there, it''s basically just a bustle anyway (so she doubted they could mess that up!) Also, another concern we had was the bride asked us to get gloves dyed to match which was no problem. She we got measured left deposits and tried to order gloves one by one. They wouldn''t let us do that, they wouldn''t even let us order the five as a set but make 5 different payments. So, instead my friends poor mother ended up shoveling out that money to them (which had to be a credit card or cash and no amex) and have us write her checks.. I didn''t understand why they couldn''t add the additional charge with my dress deposit since it was being made at the same time and then still order all of our gloves together.. well they were adamant against that.. Argh, I really just have no love for that store. I think for bridal they are good, and it''s a roomy store but there''s bridesmaid cottage isn''t the same quality so beware. I picked CWC because if you go on an off time you can get the attention you deserve and the prices are about 75 cheaper then addrienes. I have also heard good news for Bridal Reflections in Massapequa! Best Wishes! Ps. if you check my profile you will see my pic and you will see that they shouldn''t have had too tough of a problem fitting me for a dress.. Argh, I''m still fumming. I don''t want you to think I am super picky.. I am so laid back it was just a terrible situation. They offered no money back and they knew they lost my wedding, all my friends alterations and two other friends cancelled appointments there. Laurie:)

I didn't have a good experience either...
I went to Adrienne's to look for my bridal gown and didn't find anything. They told me they do not have catalogs to look at only what was on the rack. Also the prices were higher than any place else I had looked. When I was there a bride was getting fitted and was in tears. It was a custom dress for her and it looked like a nightgown. She hated it and her mom was telling me they had not had a good experience at all. Needless to say I went elsewhere.

Stay away from Patchogue Bridal Suite!
While my original experience with them was wonderful (buying my gown), it went downhill a year later when the time for alterations came. I would not recommend them to anyone.

I just ordered my dress on Wednesday from Lynbrook Bridal on Sunrise Hgwy. Excellent service and great prices! I only waited two minutes to be waited on by Rose and she was really helpful (but then again I went on a Wed. afternoon, so it was obviously easier to wait on me). Also check out Beautiful Bride on Merrick Rd. in Lybrook. Both are only 2 minutes from each other. Personally, I wouldn't order my dress too soon. Unless your body doesn't change too much (weight) and you have in your head what you want. Good luck!

I ordered my dress from Bridal Suite in Bay Shore...and have so far had a good experience...(not sure if it is associated with the Centerreach, Hunt, or Patchogue..)the same woman has run it for over 35 years...My attendant MaryEllen was very good...she pulled out dresses that matched my ideas...and prices...and even though I found THE dress...she made me try on more...just to be sure... I ordered my veil from them as well and I went to pick it up...they forgot to put on the border...when I showed them...they took it back right away and said they would redo it...no problems... I also went with my BMs on a busy Sat afternoon and they treated us like we were the only people there...

Anyone try Macy`s Bridal????
I have not gotten such great service there. They are also pretty expensive. If you find a dress you like, try ordering it from Burtons in Huntington. I was quoted $300 less than the price Macy's was asking and they even include a headpiece. They are very nice there but if you are looking for a fancy shop, they are definitely not for you.

I tried several places
I would say 9-12 months before your wedding you should place the order. Styles change so you may not want to buy your dress too early. I bought my dress at Bridal Couture in Manhasset about 9mos prior to my wedding. They are pricey but great. The dresses are very different b/c they are couture! I had orignally planned to shop around and buy at RK Bridal b/c it is in the city (convenient) and the pries are the best but wound up buying it at Bridal Couture. I tried many places because I wasn't finding anything that hit me. I also tried Flowerama, RK Bridal and a few others. Finally, I found the one!

ditto on Macy's Bridal
I haven't bought my wedding dress yet, but a girlfriend of mine got married last year & she & us bridesmaids got our dresses there. I agree, the service was terrible. The people were not very pleasant & were completely commission-driven so that you could only come in when your sales person was working.Welcome New Vendors
