I went out yesterday for the first time to look for my wedding dress and I was so disappointed. I went to Macy's Bridal Salon in Lake Grove. The Demetrios line that I really want to try is in the new collection and Macy's won't have it until their next trunk show, which is at the end of Feb. I am so upset, I tried on some nice gowns yesterday, but not really the style I was looking for. I want a dress that is elegant, but not cumbersome. I want to be able to really dance at my reception and with all the material on the dresses I don't know how that is possible.
I am getting married 9/8/07, if I don't order a dress until late Feb do you think it'll be ready in time?

aww..i'm sorry you were disappointed! i'm sure if you order in late feb. it will be in for your wedding!!
ETA: is macy's the only option? have you tried calling places like RK Bridal, Bridal Reflections, Kleinfelds, to see if they might have the new line in sooner?

I am 99% sure that if you order in Feb you would have enough time. Just make sure the salon moves up your wedding date on the order form.
It can be done!

Yes, I think 6 months is still plenty of time. I know a lot of girls that didn't get their dress till then and when you are looking you should make sure they know when the wedding is so they'll know if it gives them enough time. You should try other stores and even Kleinfelds. You can always go back to Macy's, but keep looking in the mean time

Re: Wedding grown dilema
I ordered my dress the last week on November and the store told me that it wouldn't be in until at least June or July... and I'm getting married in September too... I've now come to find out that it will be here the first week of March!!!!!! As long as you tell them what your situation is, they'll definitely have it for you in time!! No worries!!

Re: Wedding grown dilema
Did you happen to ask a bridal attendant for there recommendations while you were in the store? I am sure they would have told you what a feasible cut off time is for you to order your dress and receive it in time for your early September wedding. That’s what their there for.

Yes, that bridal attendant expressed that it should be enough time, but this is such an important part I want to be sure. She also stated that they always move the date up on the order form to ensure that the dress will be ready for the event. I am praying that it works out because I would hate to settle for a second choice for my dress.
Thank you all for the support and advice.

Re: Wedding grown dilema
I would look around more...i wanted a light, non-poofy wedding dress without alot of fabric and found it...i actually found several like that...don't get discouraged after only one try...i hit about 10 different shops and tried about 100 dresses before finding 'the one'...also try on styles that you normally wouldn't...you'll be surprised sometimes!

Re: Wedding grown dilema
I ordered my dress 1 month ago and I was told it would be in by the end of March (hopefully)- that was for a Mori Lee dress. My friend ordered a Stephen Yearick gown in August and I think it won't be in until June......so it really depends on the designer that you choose. Worse case scenario, you might have to pay a rush fee.

Well not to scarey you but my paricular gown I ordered it the end of Aug. 06 and my wedding is in 10-07 they told me my dress won't be in till middle of September. I am sure you won't have a problem but some places may charge more.

Re: Wedding grown dilema
I called each salon that carries Demetrios and none of them have the new collection yet. I guess I'll have to continue my search for a gown.
Thanks ladies!

I know for a FACT that Macy's Bridal Salon Herald Square (in Manhattan) has the entire Spring 2007 line of dresses. I tried some of them on!!!

Re: Wedding grown dilema
have you tried the 34th street Macy's? I think you'll have enough time to get your dress. it takes 3-4 months for it to come in!

Re: Wedding grown dilema
You should have plenty of time. My wedding is in May and I just ordered my dress two weeks ago! They promised it'll be in by mid-April, so I hope that's true. Good luck--I'm sure you'll find the dress of your dreams!
