Wedding in 5 days and I cannot walk! Help

I've had mild back pain for a month. I had other medical problems that had to come first and it wasn't very painful so I let it go. It started to worsen and then I noticed that there is a huge lump coming out of my spine. Almost as if a vertabrae has popped out. My internist sent me for xrays today but unfortunately my wedding is this Saturday and I'll never be able to treat it by then. Aleve isn't helping the pain and rest isn't helping.

I'm thinking of going for accupuncture. I am sure there is a medical explanation for this bump in my back and the pain but it will have to wait until next week.

Right now - I want to be able to walk for my wedding. I live in Manhattan but my wedding is on LI in Suffolk.

Can anyone recommend an accupuncturist?
Anyone have any experience? Would I feel better after only one or two sessions?

Ask your doctor to give you some pain medicine for your wedding and honeymoon. I too had back pain for my wedding and I have a lump sticking out of my back, which is a muscle that is in spasm and won't release. Doctor says it will never go away. I took vicodin on my wedding day for the pain. But just be careful and take it before your wedding to see what effect it has on you, it puts some people to sleep!! Feel Better!!

I had accupuncture done 3 times a week after our car accident... it does help when it is done by a right person, but I cant recommend anyone because it was done in my doctor's office where I went to physical therapy... but it does help... (I feel for you, I am living with back pain every day now and this rainy weather doesnt help either)

Be careful when choosing a accupuncturist. My father has back problems, and is in constant pain. He goes to one once a week. My dad never complains or shows that he is pain.They hit his spine on mistake, and that made it worse. The next day he couldn't get out of bed. He was in so much pain he couldn't even walk. We had to rush him to the hospital. They gave him a shot of morphine to ease the pain. This post is not to scare you. Just be careful. I'm sure there other people on here with good experiences.

Wow just really be careful you don't want to worsen what your back problem really is. I would ask your Dr. for some suggestions of what to do until after your wedding. The Dr. may give you something to ease your pain even an epidural could help you. They sometimes help a lot for some people or maybe just meds.

I have a great supply of pain pills ( I hoard them for times like this!!!)

My mom suggested using a Vicodin tonight to test out how it will make me feel since I don't remember how sleepy it makes me. My fiance recently broke his leg so we have a big supply left over luckily.
At least if it makes me really drowsy - I will get a good night's sleep tonight!

Thanks for all of your help. My dr has been very slow in acting. He said if I've had it for 2 months and can live with it - why rush. Problem is that the pain has REALLY intensified and I'm worried about being able to stand at the ceremony and walk. I plan to treat it properly as of Monday but I know I need emergency measures now that will just get me by.

Thanks everyone and any more advice is GREATLY appreciated. I am so nervous that I will be in pain that day. It's supposed to rain too. that bothered me until my back started hurting this much. now I'm just praying this gets better. I won't ask for anything else!!!

You poor thing! Definately see if your doctor can get you pain medication for now (so long as it doesn't make you tired or groggy). Hopefully everything will turn out okay!

hopefully this is only a muscle spasm. i wouldn't bother with acupuncture because if it works at all i'm pretty sure it would take longer than 1-2 sessions. i really shouldn't be saying this, because doctors aren't supposed to believe in chiropractors... lol... but what i might do is see a chiropractor, who can give you a good, focused massage. that combined with anti-inflammatory meds (aleve, advil) may do the trick to get you walking.

I know of one doctor who is certified - she used to be a doctor in canada where they certify acupucturists - her name is Dr. Cromier - of North Shore medical group - yyou can look her up - it is huntington, Long island though

Alternate HOT and COLD, For as long as you CAN, Lay down, I know it's hard right now, but lay down for a little while, HOT AND COLD. I get back pain, and that's what i do, I HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU.. FEEL BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had back problems before and the chiropractor seemed to help quite about. Also, what about getting a massage? Try to relax and keep calm too. I'm sure stressing won't help so just relax... hot baths candle light.. Bengay is good for knots too.
