How far in advance do you ask people to be in your wedding party?

Re: Wedding Party
I would think well in advance of when you want to start buying the BM dresses and having the Bridal Shower, so that way they have time to plan and save for everything.

Re: Wedding Party
I asked my girls almost immediately after I got engaged, but that's because I'm terrible at keeping exciting secrets.
FH asked his GM's at our e-party back in February.

Re: Wedding Party
I'm getting married 10/2/10 and I have asked everyone already...
I think at least a year out... That gives them time to come up with $$ for their dresses etc as well as be able to plan for any time off they may have to take...

Re: Wedding Party
My parents and sister were there when we got engaged and as soon as my head stopped spinning and my heart stopped racing and FH and I had had a few minutes to ourselves, I went over to my sister and screeched 'YOU HAVE TO BE MY MAID OF HONOR!!!!!!!!!!!' and she started crying.
I asked my best friend to be my BM over the phone on her way to work a few months later. I had been holding it in and holding it in and I just couldn't take it anymore and popped.
We're only having a 4-person wedding party. He asked his brother to be his best man about a month ago and is trying to figure out who to ask as his groomsman. It's between two guy friends of his. If he can't decide, then I'm going to tell him to ask both of them.

i would wait till the last moments possible. i wish i waited just a few more months longer than i did, but i guess you have to learn from your mistakes right?

Re: Wedding Party
I asked most of my girls in September and the rest of the girls in April. We picked out the dresses in May.

Re: Wedding Party
um.. my brother and sisterinlaw were a given, same with one of FH's sisterinlaws and all 3 of his brothers. so I didn't ASK them.. it had been discussed before we were even engaged. The one of my BMs I asked 2 or 3 days after we got engaged... or maybe the day after, we were in NC staying with her and her hubby so I wanted to ask her in person and knew I prob wouldn't see them for a while. I asked my MOH the day after we came back... so 6 days after we were engaged. I never asked the kids to be in the bridal party... it was just automatic and my nephew kept asking if he was in it.. I wanted him to be, but FH was a little hesitant... until I told him that there's more of his family in the PB then mine AND its my ONLY nephew, his 2 are our RBs AND my nephew is his god son... so he finally caved and we just said YES... and then joes other sisterinlaw.. I never asked.. I don't want to or know how to... but this past saturday when we were together I basically worked it in that she's a bridesmaid. oh and his bestman.. is his brother that's closest in age.. the 4 of them are basically grouped into 2 due to age. and 2 of them were each others BMen.. so I had asked joe to ask his brother for MONTHS and FINALLY AT the engagement party I wanted to take a pic of the 4 of us he finally pulled his brother to the side and asked him... then 2 seconds later... the picture.

that's what i did too.. i made each of them a card along with a cookie shaped like a dress. my FH is a pastry chef so he helped me with them. I took them out for a few drinks and we had tons of fun celebrating!

Re: Wedding Party
We've asked my MOH, 2 BMs and one GM (possible BM...FH hasn't decided for sure haha)
If I wasn't completely sure that these 3 girls would never cause me drama I would have waited to see how things played out a little.

Re: Wedding Party
I asked my ladies over a year in advance. I want to give them enough time to consider it all... weddings can add up....all the little things.

Re: Wedding Party
I asked my best friend (who happens to be a male)to be my MOH pretty much immediately. My two sisters were a given lol. My two friends (Both named Nicole mind you! lol) And I just recently asked one of the Nicoles friend to be my 2nd MOH. I am going back and forth on some other people. I am a MOH in like two weeks at a wedding and its not that I dont want to include her in the wedding party, but FH doesn't have many close male friends ya know? He has his cousin who is his best man, his other cousin, my 2 brothers, and his friend dave (WHO I HATE!!! UGH!!!).
