Wedding price help!!

Wedding price help!!

I'm in the beginning stages of reception hall 'shopping' and I'm looking for ways to cut from the per person cost. I've always wanted a Saturday night, summer wedding but i'm beginning to realize that its not going to happen due to cost. I'm still determined to make it a summer wedding but have decided to go with a Friday night.
Can anyone please give me recommendations of how to get the halls to cut the per person rates? What are some things that I can cut back on or remove that will lower the cost????

Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

If you raise the minimum head count they will usually lower the price per head.

But just ask if there is anything they can do. I would say almost everyplace I went to was willing to give me a break on a Friday night wedding.

Def ask if they could do anything with the price before you offer a higher minimum though.

i may be no help to this but here are some things that i'm doing which def cut some costs.
The venue
-doing the centerpieces ALL BY MY SELF!! I am not planning on spending more than 200 on the centerpieces.
They are offering the cake (not buying my own) i believe all reception halls do this.
Not having a Viennese hour

The church
I will also decorate it myself just adding the flowers

and thats about it, also the invites i'll be doing my self but i will save money compared to the one that they make for you. (pocketfold)

You can have it on an 'off peak' day. My wedding is on a Thursday and we are saving tremendously. Depending on the venue you can sometimes take some things off your menu you deem unncessary. That will help drop the price. You can cut out things in different areas besides the RH. You can do alot of DIY projects which can help

If you really want the summer, maybe you can do a Saturday afternoon? Afternoon weddings are around $20 cheaper per person.

Also, if the higher the minimum the lower price you will get.

Cut out any extras you don't want.

if you guarantee more, they may lower the price... if you have an afternoon vs night... if you have on any day other than sat.. lol

i asked mine to lower the min and we'd add viennese... they took me up on the offer... turns out i dont think im gonna need the lower min anymore and i also added a more expensive package so really think through your plan before you go negotiating with them

How many people are you planning to invite?

PS: consider the swan club if you can... the price is sooo good that you really shouldnt have to negotiate too much

I just just just did this....I was like a bargain shopper. I said to them that price is great and all..how can we make it better? They tell you oh, have it on this day or this day but if you want a saturday wedding and your heart is set on it, then you tell them to cut stuff out of the CH for one thing, you can ask for certain things included in the price such as chair covers which trust me, some places need anyway. Use their suggestions as starting off prices, we are in a SLOW economy, they will work with you.

We were able to get a 'value menu' which just limits some of our choices for CH and dinner. Nobody will know though since it's just going to look like we didn't choose those things and there will be still be tons of food. We saved $25 pp by doing this.

ITA
Also, check out the Floral Terrace. They offer a lot and you won't break the bank...unless you want to

i know you said you really wanted a summer wedding, but if you change the time of year, you may get a better deal. i originally wanted a saturday night summer wedding, but after shopping around at RH's, it worked out to be a lot cheaper to have it on a saturday in march rather than a friday in july. i also saved on my photographer, so other places may be willing to cut prices if it is 'off season'

Pretend you're interested in a different date. For example, if you want to get married in July and June is more popular, really harp on a June date and they may drop the dates in July down. Then you can 'settle' for the date you really wanted. It may not necessarily work but is definitely worth a try. GL!

So funny you said that but that's what happened to us and it was totally unplanned. We originally wanted a summer wedding but didn't even bring it up bc we knew summer was usually more money. Then after going over rates, they offered us a great deal and super score for us! We took it!

So, it all depends on the venue. Do some research, I'm sure you'll find something affordable.

Hi

Friday wedding in the evening is usually the cheapest prices at most reception halls....then come Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening ...then Saturday. When FH and I were looking around for reception halls, we look at many places (dont set your heart on only one place). There are many places in Long Island that is cheaper and nicer than other RH for the date that you want.

You can also cut the cost by doing stuff by yourself (like centerpieces, aisle runners, place cards, etc.).

Re: Wedding price help!!

When my friend got married she had them reduce the wedding package.

eg.

Instead of getting a 7 course dinner she got a 5 course.

Instead of having 8 station during the coctail hour she had 6.

I guess it really depends upon what they're already offering you. If they're offering you an orgy of food maybe try and cut down on some of the REALLY unnecessary stuff. I also agree w/the raising the minimum head requirement. You can also just outright negotiate the price per head w/them. That's pretty standard practice. I consider all 'quotes' vendors give us to simply be a jumping off point. I would never pay 'sticker' price for anything when vendor shopping (except for my dress maybe, lol). Just ask them what they can do on the price.
