Wedding Venue Hopping Blues

Hi All!

I'm getting married in September 2014 and was wondering if any of you got married at these venues below and what was your experience like. My fiance and I already visited these venues below:

Swan Club
Fox Hollow
Woodbury Country Club
Chateau Briand
Coral House

And we are visiting this weekend:
Sand Caslte
Metropolitan Caterers

I would love to hear your feedback!

Thanks in advance!

I haven't been married yet, but we love The Swan Club. Woodbury CC wants us to come in, and they're making me an offer. Chateau Briand is very nice, but way out of our price range. Coral House is ok... I was there for a 40th bday party last year, and thought it was nice, but I wouldn't get married there (just my opinion). Fox Hollow is way too pricey for us too.

Do you have reservations about the places you've seen so far? Would you mind sharing with me? You can FM me if you need to.

Wedding Venue Hopping Blues

Hi!

My fiance and I loved the Swan Club too. The grounds were beautiful and we liked the fact that the 'Garden Room' that was shown to us had it's own private bathroom for the guests. The only thing was we felt the dance floor looked a little small and my 9-year-old niece confirmed after she did her little two-step on the dance floor. LOL Kids I tell ya! But my friend advised me, everyone won't dance so it should be fine. Also my fiance and groomsmen are all over 6 ft with the tallest being 6'7. So we were a little concerned about the somewhat low ceilings. But overall, the customer service there and the grounds are beautiful!

Coral House, my fiance and I didn't like too much either. He felt it didn't have a romantic vibe to it and he felt upon entrance, the lobby itself wasn't inviting. The room that we liked, 'The Americana Room' was nice but required 175 min guest. So far we have about a 150 guest list. So we are thinking about 125 for those that can't make it.

Fox Hollow, The Somerely Room was really nice but we didn't like their customer service. We felt the BM was kind of pushy and I noticed he only said my fiance's name and not mine and I'm the bride! The guy was cool throughout the tour, and even gave me a fox stuffed animal. They did offer a free suite at the hotel next door. The suite was nice. But the whole vibes didn't say 'friendly'.

We also loved WoodBury Country Club, but feel although the BM was awesome, he's charging for every little thing and not budging to substitute for things I want to change. But it's a nice venue and the people are very friendly.

Of those we only visited fox hollow. I liked the venue but really didn't like the BM. He just rubbed me the wrong way. AND they made me wait 45 minutes for my appointment! He blamed it on that they saw a lot of walk ins. (um well thats not my fault, I made an appt, I should not have to wait so long.) I can understand the Venue Blues though because I saw 12 venues before I booked. Just keep looking. You'll know when you find the right venue for you & FH.

Swan Club was really nice. I went to a wedding there in September. The grounds were beautiful, def makes for awesome pictures. One thing, I did not like was it was very, very tight! They had about 150 guest and the cocktail room was just too small to accomodate. There was not enough seating and it was hard to move around. Also, there was a sweet sixteen taking place at the same time so we had to share a bathroom and a lobby with girls who were dressed like streetwalkers lol (what is going on with kid these days!!). That isn't a huge deal, but that is exactly why I prefer venues that only host one event.

Def check out Sand Castle! They are amazing. We stopped looking after we visited them. It may sound a little more pricey but you get soooo much bang for your buck and the service is so good.

Good luck and have fun!!

Re: Wedding Venue Hopping Blues

Thanks so much for the advice!

Ironically, one of the BM just called me from Woodbury Country Club, trying to convince me to sway their way.

Yes, I guess when we see the right venue, we will know it's the one!

I forgot to mention in the earlier responses, have anyone recently been to Jericho Terrace? We were thinking of checking that venue out as well.

Omg! We had the same experience. Also, he told us they don't do tastings, which I wasn't too happy with. The BM totally ruined it for me I think..plus it was a bit over our budget

I had the same bad vibe experience from fox hollow! The BM was too salesman-ish and pushy. The Somerley room was GORGEOUS but he wasn't budging on the price at all and then wouldn't even take us to look at the Winter Garden Pavilion! He just kept saying that it would be $10 cheaper over and over and wouldn't take us back downstairs to see it.

It seems like the Fox Hollow overall doesn't makes you feel exclusive and inviting. I think they show you that Somerley Room to entice you and lure you into thinking you're getting a great deal because the room itself it's pretty new!

I went to Metropolitan just because it was across the street from my old job and I wanted to see it. The place is absolutely BEAUTIFUL inside, the only downside was that it doesn't hold that many people. I also wasn't a fan of how the guests would have been on two different levels, but a lot of people loved that. If you have a smaller guest list, you should definitely check it out!

Thanks so much for the Metropolitan info. Yes I noticed from the pics that the reception hall is on two levels and it holds more for a smaller wedding. My guest list is over 100.

I looked at the Metropolitan, same comment about the number of people. The woman I spoke with (Pam?) was really nice and helpful, I thought the price was great, and my parents have been to an event there and thought the food and service was excellent. I just have too many people for it.

I liked the Metropolitan. I think they said it could hold up to 200 and the woman we met with was SO nice. You also have complete run of the place, its one event at a time. Very affordable too, especially since you have the whole place to yourself.

I agree 100%.. Swan Clubs grounds were beautiful and their prices are very fair. A family member got married there and it was snug. If you aren't having a lot of guests and you can fit in the cocktail hour space or use the outdoor space it is ok. But if you stay inside there is just not enough seating. When we went to look though I also didn't like how the guests had to walk through the reception room to get into the C-Hour room if there was another party going on and we couldn't walk around outside.

I had the same experience at Fox Hollow too that another girl said. They made me wait forever and then my BM which I did not like gave us a super high quote because my fiancé and I were dressed very well because we were going out to eat after. It was one of the first places we went and it bothered me that he basically judged us based on our appearance when we are not rich whatsoever and I could not afford the ridiculous price lol. Had he give me a legit quote it may have been a contender for us because it is a gorgeous place and really charming. Plus you get a free night at the Inn.

And I'm biased to Sand Castle too because I am booked there and have nothing but good things to say. Its not cheap, but you get a TON for your money and they are really willing to work with you. Their prices also seem higher because they include the gratuity and then just add tax unlike most places its the price then ++. Its definitely worth looking at, it was the 18th hall I looked at and I stopped after that, I just felt like I was meant to get married there lol as corny as it sounds

Everyone has their own taste and opinions so its best to check it out yourself, you never know how you are going to feel when you walk through the doors of a hall. Good luck!!

Thanks so much for you feedback. My FH and I was thinking the same thing about the Swan club, that it feels like a tight fit. Also, my FH wanted to get married outside on the grounds. I think they only offer photo ops for the Gazebo part but I could be wrong.

The Sand Castle seems like they have a friendly staff base on the phone call. They had to reschedule with me due to the weather.
