Re: weddingoff????
You may want to tell your dad that he is going to loose alot of money. You are going to loose all the deposits you put down. You might even have to pay for the whole hall if they don't book another wedding for your date.
Is your hall alone $30,000, because you said you and FH are paying for everything else, and your dad is paying for the hall.
I have a temper so I would of went crazy!! I would of told him that, if he would like to travel to the Bahamas. He is more then welcome, but I will be getting married that weekend here on Long Island, End of story!!
Find out how much the two of you would have to come up with. Then call FH parents and ask them if they could help.
Good Luck!!

Re: weddingoff????
I'm so sorry that you're going through this, Nicole. There has to be a way to work this out. Perhaps your dad wan't thinking clearly due to heart probs and all. I'm sure he wants to make you happy or he wouldn't have agreed to pay for it in the first place. Maybe you guys can share the costs (pay him back?) And future inlaws might want to help pay for something else so that you can pay for the hall. Would it help to show your dad all the receipts etc- so he knows where you're coming from?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. If all those things are paid for what does your father want? A refund for the hall? I hope everything works out for you.

I am sorry you are going through this...maybe he will come around, maybe there is some talking to him...maybe you can postpone the wedding until you save the money on your own... I wish you all the best and Nic, you know I am only an FM away

I am so sorry you are going through this! At the end of the day all that matters is that you and FH are married...does not matter if it's in a big fancy hall...but I can understand why it's important to you. It seems kind of unfair of him to agree to paying for this and then once everything is booked to go back on his promise. Especially when you are probably counting on his contribution. Is there a way that you can reduce some of the cost of the wedding?

Re: weddingoff????
I hope your dad realizes that, he lost the deposit money anyways, whether you have the wedding or not, you are gonna lose so much money for nothing, its ridiculous how he is behaving after promising to pay, how about you guys cut a few corners, cut out any of dad's friends or relatives you do not want and cut back on a few extras, rebudget the wedding for less people, a little less extravagance and frills, and see how much you are short... you can take it from there by getting a loan from FMIL or from a bank, I mean you have paid for things already, no need to let it all go to waste for dad's mishap..and who knows, maybe in a few days/weeks he might change his mind and what is bothering him wont be..
aslo have a heart to heart with dad, maybe he thought he could afford it and turns out he can't, he might be just too proud to tell you money is tight, dont judge until you have the facts, but def. rebudget and dont lose your day..

Re: weddingoff????
I just wanted to suggest applying for a loan to pay the hall-then pay it off with the money you get from the wedding.
I'm sure it will work out. everything always does

Re: weddingoff????
We have a similar problem in that my parents wwere supposed to help, but that changed. If I were you, you have so little time to go, so much is paid for, I'd beg borrow and steal to still have the wedding.

(it is not there job) grrrrrrrrrrrr dad is set on going to the bahamas to get married and fh says taht is crazy and not going.... gosh now what i am in this in the middle and everything is booked i am never getting the wedding of my dreams.... i am so upset and fh is not home because he is at the ranger game for his fav player retireing tonight............. please help me girls!
xoxoxoxo nicole
Can you maybe take out a loan of some kind so you can still go ahead with your plans and then pay it back little by little... i'm sure just with gifts you'll get almost half of that back anyway.

Re: weddingoff????
oh no. don't give up. try to change the date and pay for it. thats what happened to me, well a little different...2 months after i started planning my wedding, i found out my mom was diagnosis with leukemia. she had to stop working. i was devesated. i was going to cancel because she's sick but she said this is every womens dream and if you really want a wedding try to keep it small and simple and pay for it. so thats exactly what we're doing. she's only paying for our honeymoon. don't give up this is your dream.

Where there's a will there's a way. You'll figure it out. With so much done, it would be a shame not to go through with what you've planned.
Maybe mention you're thinking of taking out a loan to pay for the reception and see what kind of reaction you get.
