weddings & debt

is anyone concerned that their wedding must haves are going to put them into debt?

No. We are not putting anything on credit and not getting anything beyond our means. We are being very budget savvy. Not going with top names in the biz so to speak, getting what we really need and choosing wisely with our wants. Not worrying about the little things that add up like bathroom baskets or slipper baskets or an aisle runner. Do not even think our guests would notice this stuff missing. We want a beautiful wedding but we also refuse to put ourselves or my parents into debt. The plan is to keep it under $15,000 and I know we will succeed.

FH gave me money last year to pay off my credit cards. & my parents gave me a loan to pay off the rest. FH has since confiscated all my cards so i have no way to get into debt again.
i do feel this to be very fustrated because i have seen things i would love to have & don't have anyway to pay for them. i was saving money but didn't realize how much my books for the semester were going to cost so that money went towards those.

I agree with Amanda - no sense putting yourself into debt. I mean, do you honestly remember the last wedding you were at and said to yourself 'Oh, what a beautiful bathroom basket'.

i am trying not to use any credit cards. FH is totally against the idea of putting it on a credit card. so we are going to try and pay for it without CCs... but i am very worried about going into debt over it.

I agree too, we are paying for it ourselves and buying a house. That's why we push the wedding from 11/08 to 2010. We like to travel and enjoy life. Our wedding will still be beautiful.

hopefully not! FH and i have started a joint 'wedding fund' savings account so that we can pay for our wedding and hopefully some money towards a place to live

I am allready in enough debt from school, so I absolutely refuse to go into any more. We do not have credit cards and do not intend to get any to pay for this wedding. We have a budget figured out and I also planned out how much money we need to save each month to pay off this weddiing. I don't want to have the burden of wedding expenses that are stil not paid off after the wedding!

i'm already in debt from school (went for 8 years-got my Masters) so i will be paying that off for the rest of my life. So we refuse to go into anymore debt for the wedding, especially with buying a house now.

no way am I putting anything on credit cards. Me and FH have are money saved for our down payment for when be buy a place to live and we aren't touching that.

we already have about 4K saved so far for our wedding and we are just going to save for the next year and a half and hopefully that will be enough.

I want to book everything early so that way I know how much our wedding will cost and I am prepared to get a second job for a little so we can save the rest.

I feared that. I decided that I wouldn't make any payments through my credits cards & such.. everything would be by check or cash to avoid spending more than we have.

Luckily a lot of vendors will work out payment plans that can work for you. You just need to express any concerns with them about it.

We are paying everything . I dont want to be in debt, espcially after finally paying off all my credit cards.

we started a joint account too. hopefully that will help us save even more money. we both have some money saved individually and we don't plan on putting stuff on credit cards.

I have so much debt from school (law school tehn the LLM) that I dont want to go into debt for the wedding. Hopefully the job I am working at now will help cover the wedding, and everything after that will go to saving for bills

we are already in debt from school and still trying to pay it off so hopefully we dont go overboard and have to use a credit card for this wedding..

As of right now though the only card i plan to use is my debit card for all of this, nothing else.

Re: weddings & debt

nope definitely don't want to start our marriage with debt. while i want the wedding to be extremely beautiful, there is so much more after the wedding that I look forward to. FH and I are trying very hard not to increase the cost of spending for the wedding as our income increases. Instread, we act like the money isn't even there and put it towards our savings for the future.

We have some school debt (not a lot) but we're paying cash for the wedding.. and we'll have the mortgage. I REFUSE to go to into debt for ONE day. I love my wedding, but one day is not worth our future as a family.

Everything is going to be cash or checks. No point in going into so much debt for one day. And spend the first few years of our married life together paying off an elaborate wedding! You can save alot by paying the vendors cash that way you wont get taxed. Do what you can afford.
