What are some things you are doing to make your wedding very unique?

What are some things you are doing to make your wedding very unique?

I thought this might be a fun question? And it may help others who aren't so creative to get their minds spinning... Thanks

Re: What are some things you are doing to make your wedding very unique?

I am doing a wish bowl instead of a traditional guest book.

I had my invites (not just the envelopes) hand calligraphed and will have matching menus and program covers printed

we are naming our tables after my FH's favoriate hobby- Baseball Stadiums around the US. He travels to games and photographs the stadiums. So he made table name cards using his photographs, and included a brief history of the stadium.

doing place candles instead of placecards (see SonicStef's wedding photos)

choreographing our first dance

at our RD instead of a regular cake/dessert I am having a cake made to be a replica of Fenway Park for my FH, as a groom's cake.

Michele31, how does the wish bowl work?

Using a red velvet ring bearer pillow that my mom made to make it more christmassy and that will also match the BM's color.

Had our monogrammed embossed on all our invites.

Designed a monogram to use on the cover of my programs, my placecards and table numbers.

Using miniature christmas nutcraker place card holders to hold the table numbers on each table.

Using a sled instead of a basket or birdcage to hold cards.

Found unique favors that I've never seen before; it is a dove ornament made of biodegrabale seed paper..can be kept as an ornament or planted and will grown pine trees.

Re: Michele31??

What are you doing as favors??

FH's mom got remarried last year and her husband is a very well-known baseball coach in LI.. her favors were baseballs, in a clear box, with a nice god ribbon and the ball was engraved with 'Thank you for coming to our Opening Day' XXX and XXX, August 18, 2001

and she had the band surprise her and had them coming into 'Take me out to the Ballgame' it was really cool

wish bowls are super easy and not expensive. (Martha Stewart idea, of course)
You get a bowl of some kind that is large enough to fit notecards into. I got single notecards from Lion in the Sun in Huntington for 20 cents each and 2 pretty pens. Then your guests write their 'wishes' for you on the notecards and put them into the bowl. There are a bunch of instructional poems that you can use to let guests know what to do. Afterwards you read your wishes and put them into a scrapbook. Some girls paste the little notecard envelopes into a scrapbook (envelopes are 40 cents each) but I got a photo album with sleeves and will be putting my 'wishes' into that instead.
Marcella: that is a great favor idea. My FH would have loved that. But I am doing Krispy Kreme donuts. Since my FH is not a famous baseball coach and I hate sports I didn't want to overdo the baseball stuff

Michele - I went to a wedding last Sat and the bride had a wish bowl and I was so excited to write in it. So, at the end of the cocktail hour I went over, figuring I would be one of the last ones and there were only 3 notes in it! (There were 220 people at the wedding!) So, I definitely recommend having a bm or relative advocate the wish bowl and ask people to fill out the cards!

I hired a day of wedding coordinator and she will be in charge of that. The wish bowl will be on the main enterance table as soon as guests walk in and left out the rest of the evening so I figure most guests will make time at some point. And the coordinator will also ask people. Thanks for the hint though.

I went to a wedding last weekend and found this VERY unique . . .She dressed the Ring BEARer as a bear and the FLOWER girl was dressed like a flower. . .

So far...custom made invitations and spray painted flowers in my centerpieces. It sounds much more tackier than it looks. I have light gold spray paint on the green leaves in the arrangement. I will post a pic soon.

Thanks for the explanation Michele31. The wish bowl sounds like a nice idea.

we did letterpress invitations that were little booklets. we incorporated all quotes from The Great Gatsby in there. We made matchboxes w. a picture of us from Positano on it, I THINK we are doing table pictures of places we have travelled with corresponding placecards (or the candles) , the little cootie catchers (origami fortune games), I am dedicating my bouquet to my sister who is getting married in January....I think that is it!

Re: What are some things you are doing to make your wedding very unique?

Well, I'm doing various things, I think all brides do for that matter lol

but my favorite is that my flowergirls (5 of them) will be dressing as fairies.. with wings and all..

May I also add that I'm having a theme wedding so I guess it goes with the territory,,

For the ceremony, I will be doing the within the ribbon..

I am having gardenias in my bouquet to memorialize my nanna..

I will also be having ceremony programs that I'm making and will have a reading dedicating the mass to her..

I will be having a strolling violinist as guests walk in and throughout the cocktail hour as well as a keyboardist...

Guests will be instructed to take an elaborate mask( I have two dif ones picked out, one for men, one for women) before entering into the ballroom.. (the whole venetian masquerade theme) (this will serve as favors)

feather centerpieces..

dj AND a band..

Having the guests enter the ballroom to a Moulin Rouge-type music...

video montage that FH and I are working with the videographer to put together..

having the bridal party light up tapered candles (there are a total of 24 attendants) after we've been introduced into the reception and encircle us with the lit candles while we're dancing to our first song..

will be doing the bouquet toss, only because I will be tossing the bouquet from the balcony of the reception hall..

bagels with butter and cream cheese will be handed out to guests on their way out..

uhmm.. Let me think....what else..

We are having a cigar bar, complete with handrolled cigars w/personalized bands for the guys.

The wishbowl, my cousin will be the teenage attendant during cocktail hour.

Cocktail style reception.

Rose Petal Farewell at the end our our reception
(we will leave in Fi's decorated Truck)

Unique live ceremony music.

Writing our own vows, including our children in our ceremony.

Naming tables after places we'll see on our Honeymoon.

Anniversary Dance(not really too unique anymore)

That's all I can think of now.

Re: What are some things you are doing to make your wedding very unique?

We have a beach/seashell theme & we are naming all the tables after a Long Island Lighthouse. Then I want to find a lighthouse rubber stamp to make my placecards.

I think our favors are going to be personalized bottles with white sand & seashells in them.

After the ceremony before we leave we are going to hand a long stemed rose to each others mothers.

I was thinking of doing the wish bowl. Saw one in a catalog that said Marriage Advice on the top.

He is going to sing one of our wedding songs to me using the DJ's mic at our reception as we dance.

That is all I can think of at the moment.

Well we may be incorporating a slide show during dinner of us with our family and bridal party, and friends of course! Also, we may incorporate some Cinderella ideas since we got engaged at the castle. Still deciding. Also my MOH is giving a speech, (not too unique).

Re: What are some things you are doing to make your wedding very unique?

I'm not sure if any of these are unique ideas-just different than the past few weddings we've been to-

wish bowl and cootie catchers

martini/cosmo bar, Guiness on tap

some of the younger cousins are Irish step dancers so they'll dance at the reception

bagpipers!!

We have a butterfly theme. We sent out butterfly invitations. We have butterfly bubbles for the church and a butterfly cake topper. We also used a stencil of a butterfly and painted it on glass votives for our favors. Instead of a gues book we have a advise jar where family and friends can fill out advice and put in the jar.
