We had a seashell theme since our reception was overlooking the Long Island Sound at the PJCC.

We sent invitations that had a single embossed and pearlized seashell at the top center.

We used seashells in all the bouquets, boutinerres, pew bows, centerpieces, and sanddollars as napkin rings at each place setting.

We created romantic table cards and named the tables after many of the cities we visited during our courtship.

We had an ocean blue wedding cake covered with edible sugar paste seashells and coral.

We used suncatchers as our wedding favors.

more about our special details than uniqueness...

We made our own invitations and programs out of silk handmade paper.

We had gardenias on the cocktail tables and on the cake (Al brings me gardenias all the time).

We named our tables after dances we enjoy.

We had our parents wedding albums on display, along with other family wedding pictures.

We played our parents wedding songs.

We had centerpieces of tulips - my favorite flower (they were also in the BM bouquets).

We had match box covers with 'A Perfect Match - Lisa & Al'...

Our ring bearer pillow was made by my MIL out of my mother's wedding dress train.

I used the same card bag my mom used at my parents wedding.

My MIL made our flowergirl dress and ring bearer vest.

My husband bought a tuxedo (as did my dad) so they wouldn't be in someone else's clothes on such a special day (and so they could enjoy wearing them again and thinking back on the day.)

I wore the veil that both my SIL wore at their weddings (that my MIL made)

We had favors that reflected our heritage (they were mini bottles of Baileys and Yagermeister, along with 5 almonds - Irish (me), German (him), Italian (both). The almonds were wrapped in lace that Al's aunt in Italy made.

and we picked a place that suited us perfectly. It was understated elegance right on the water!

And most importantly, we stayed true to ourselves when making decisions, so we could have the wedding we dreamed of. And we did

My hubby and I wrote personal notes to everyone who came to our wedding. Instead of seating cards, we had seating notes! Everyone loved them!

this was the best topic so far. You ladies are so great for sharing some of you 'secrets'... unfortunately, Im not doing anything out of the oridinary, except for the video screens that come with my DJ, to display family pics, like a movie and will also display my guests dancing live.

For the place cards, we bought tiny note cards with envelopes. In each cards a wrote a few sentences like,
'I remember roasting marshmellows in your backyard and swimming in your pool every summer. It has been so much fun growing up next door to you and I'm so happy you're here today.'

'It means so much to us to have you here. Remember the trips to the amusement parks when we were little? That was so much fun. I hope you have just as much fun tonight! Thanks so much for coming.'

Some notes were really funny. One of my friends gets married next month so in her card I wrote, 'You're next! Take good notes tonight!'
People kept coming up to us all night to tell us they noticed our special touches.

We are having so many 'special touches' but here are my favorites....

We are having an 'Autumn' themed wedding, so we sent out invitations written in gold and decorated with leaves. (Even the enevelope seal was a gold leaf)

Our favors are crystal leaf candy dishes with bags of multicolored chocolate leaves tied to them.

Our flowers will be bright yellow and orange roses mixed with colorful wildflowers, red berries and sheaves of wheat.

Our program covers are decorated with leaves.

We tried to pick fall selections for the dinner and cake (i.e. - Roasted Pork Loin with apple raisin chutney - and spiced carrot cake with cream cheese frosting).

I had a piece of my mother wedding gown sewn into mine (as my 'something old').

We will give a short speech, present the mothers with roses and have a 'special' dance for just the two sets of parents.

We are having a friend sing a 'favorite' song for us at the reception.

Last but not least, we really tried to buy gifts for the bridesmaid and groomsmen that reflected their personalities (i.e. one of the fellas is a HUGE Springsteen fan so we bought him a special autographed photo of Bruce and are giving it to him in a silver frame)

Instead of having the throwing of the bouquet/garter or the Anniversary dance, we are having our parents dance to their wedding song and then we are going to present our moms with a bouquet and our dads with a garter each.

SS2002- We are having alot of the similiars! My FH niece is a All Ireland Champion stepdancer & she will be doing a dance for us. I want to come in to both the church & reception to bagpipers! I would LOVE to have Guinness!!

Even though we are not getting married near March 17th I want to have thin shamrock garland around the centerpieces. Also I'm going to look for shamrock conffetti to spread out on the table. We are going to have counties in Ireland instead of table numbers. I'm sure there will be more!

you ladies all have wonderful ideas!

i am doing stef's (martha stewarts's) place card candles, the anniversary dance instead of throwing my bouquet, the oldest married couple will get it and the old man will have to put the garter on the old woman's leg (awww!!), I am reading a poem that wedbabe wrote for me (i modified it), to honor my dad who has heart trouble, before I dance with him, and I hope I can think of more!

Let's see...

I am making my own wedding programs

I am printing up table numbers and place cards to match one another

I am buying lots of picture frames and printing up different love poems, quotes, etc. I will instruct my hall to place these frames sporadically around the place including on tables, in hallways, in bathrooms, at the cocktail hour, etc.

I think that's it for now. Although with 264 days left, I'm sure more things will come up

My winter wedding touches:

Invites: They are silver, with falling snowflakes in the background, with a vellum overlay.

Placecards: I will be painting pinecones with either spray glitter paint or fake snow, using snowflake shaped cards, and hanging them on the pinecones with silver organza ribbon. They will surround an acrylic snowman I got at CVS for $15 (I love bargains)

Programs: I am extremely lucky to have a bm who is a graphic designer. She will be making them, but the paper she told me is navy blue with snowflakes

Bouquet: My bouquet will have roses, stephanotis and pinecones with a 'frosted' effect. I am still debating if I want my roses white or lavender. Any opinions??

Cake: My cake is included in my hall price. I am hoping that they will be able to put fake snowflakes on it if I provide them. I want the caketopper to either be kissing snowpeople or a glass snowflake

Favors: We are giving out mason jar mugs filled with hot cocoa. They have the twist off lids, that we are using fabric covers in our black/white colors (like jelly jars). My FMIL is making peel off labels with a snow bride and groom toasting champagne glasses with our names and wedding date.

I think that's it...

THe special touches we added

1) We had chocolate bars as our place cards

2) We named our tables after places in Jamaica and Trinidad where we were both born

3) Our theme was caribbean and one of our favor was black cake/fruit cake/rum cake

4) OUr invites were made with a pix from our engagement shoot

5) My hubby got a titanium ring

6) I let hubby choose the cake

7) Our programs included pix of us from our engagement shoot

8) there was a poem written for us by Lizlen, which was read at our wedding

9) Our wedding menu had a real caribbean flavor

10) My GF did our arch for us with matching colors from our bo-k

11) We had a well wishing board instead of a guest book

12) Our CD favor had a mixture of Caribbean love songs old and new and also some oldies R&B

We have personalized candy wrappers for both mints and hershey's minatures

we have personalized cocktail napkins and towels for the bathrooms

personalized stickers to put on the truffle boxes (flowerfield gives these to your guests as they leave)

personalized wrappers around cigars (will be given out in the cigar room after dinner)

Personalized lighters to light the above cigars

Hand written messages from us on each persons placecard

pipeband playing at the reception (my dad was in one for twenty years and its a big part of our family)

my bridal hankie will be made out of my baptismal dress

For now that is all I have...can you tell I am all about personalizing things, LOL

edited to add: personalized coloring books as the kids favors.
