Do you think that you have the type of relationship with your future inlaws to call them mom and dad?
What do you and fh call each others parents?
It is 'Mom and 'Dad' for me.

I would never call my MIL mom. She is not my mother. Until she says something, it will be Mrs---My mom has told my husband to call them by their first names.

They actually asked me to call them mom & dad when we got engaged. I had been calling them 'Mr. and Mrs.' for years. I told them right up front that if it was ok with them I would like to call them by their first names. They're very old-fashioned, so I think they were offended by that. I later had to explain that it doesn't mean that I love them any less, it's just that I 'm not sure how my own parents would react - I had to be honest. My parents would flip out if we were all in the same room & I called my FI's parents 'mom & dad.' I'm not sure if I did the right thing, but that is how it is for now and I'm calling them by their first names. I can always start calling them 'mom & dad' later on.

Hmmm...interesting question. Well, my FMIL has signed her cards 'future mom' since we've gotten engaged. I still call her by her first name, but will try to call her mom after the wedding. I will definitely continue to call his father by his first name.
My mom realized that my fh never calls her anything!! So I told her to tell him to call her mom, so he feels more comfortable.......she did and I think he will after the wedding. Much easier than waiting to make eye contact to get her attention!!

ive always called his mom by her first name bc that is how I was introduced and that's what he calls her, not mom but her first name. I continue to call his dad 'mr. so and so ' they are divorced - which I totally think is weird, but he has never told me to call him anything else, so, whatever!

I've always called them by ther first names and will definitely continue to do so. I would never feel comfortable calling them mom and dad b/c they are not my parents (and we are VERY close).

I lost both of my parents so I feel that there is more respect for me to call my future inlaws by there first names, I have been calling them by there first names for the last 6 1/2 years...

Right now I call FH's mom by her first name. He calls my parents Mr. and Mrs. I'm sure after we're married, we will use mom and dad.

I call them by their first names. Most likely after time we'll probably use mom and dad but we'll wait until we both comfortable with that.

I call them by their first names but will change to Mom & Dad after the wedding. He calls my Dad & stepmother Mr. & Mrs. but calls my Mom by her first name.

My FIL never said I could call them mom & dad but after we got engaged they sent me a b-day card signed 'Love, Mum & Dad' which I thought was very sweet.

I thought I was the only one with this problem... WHEW Im glad Im not.
I have a 5 month old daughter so I get away with calling them grandma and grandpa. My dad also passed away when I was 13 so calling someone else 'dad' would probably kill me BUT I think evenutually Ill start... maybe

I call her by her first name and sometimes 'ma' as all his brothers do. I never thought I would be able to do so, but both my mom and dad are gone, so I feel as long as I do not call her by what I called my mom which was mom... then I am okay with calling her 'ma' or we call her 'Ms. Cindy' as a lot of the friends do and her youngest son does sometimes.

I actually was struggling with this since we got engaged! Prior, they had told me to call them by their first names, but I wasn't raised that way (everyone was always Mr/Mrs), so I really didn't call them anything, finally, I asked my future mother-in-law, 'What did you call your in-laws when you first got married' It was a good lead in, and we ended up with 'Mom and Dad', I don't know that I will be able to say it really easily for a while, but at least when I am writing cards to them, I know what to write!!

I like that idea of asking my MIL what she called her in laws when she got married, but then I realized I always hear her call my FI grandmother 'Gradma S***' I wonder if that means she called her in laws Mr. /Mrs?

I am another that avoids it all together. Even before we were dating I did this.
I did not grow up calling people Mr and Mrs (my family is very laid back and insist my friends always used their first name and got mad if they didn't) so that is always hard for me to say unless someone is really old.
I cannot do mom and dad nor do I think they would want me to.
I think first names would be the best option but I can't do it! It is easier to just avoid it. Honestly, I think they would prefer Mr and Mrs but I think that is cold!
Avoid...maybe in a couple years when we have children I can come up with something cutsey!

I've had to call them Mr. and Mrs. since I met them, they'd freak if I ever called them by their first names. So after we are married it's Mom and Dad.
