What color goes with these?

What color goes with these?

Right now I have my bedroom painted a dark green. Im just bored with it now after 5 years so I want to change it in the spring. But I put these velvet drapes up in place of closet doors and I dont want to replace those. What color do you think would work with them?

Not a great photo but here they are on my closet.

I have medium colored wood floors and light pine furniture.

What about a nice pumkin color (not orange) or a rust. I bet that would look nice with the floow also! You could do a glaze finish on the walls to give them more interest rather than just painting them. My GF did that and it looks BEAUTIFUL!!

No, they are not green. Sorry if the photos makes them seem like that. They are called Cappacucino but they are really a goldish light brown. Sort of like the color of a golden retreiver :D

ahhh ok....well how about something in the gold family. That will lighten up the room a little but still give it that rich warm feeling

I saw something on Trading spaces this weekend...they painted the walls a gold color...more towards yellow...then used a gold glaze over it and hit the walls in certain places so when the light hit it, it looked like it was shimmery. It really was beautiful! the glazes are so much nicer than the sponge painted walls, IMO.

It may be too boring for your, but what about cream or a darker brownish color... Or maroon for a mid-east kind of look?

I dont want gold b/c that is too similiar to the drapes. I want some contrast.

I think cream and brown will clash. Maybe the color isnt apparent here.

Do you have white molding in your bedroom? Maybe a pale blue would look pretty with the white molding and cappuccino drapes. Very spring-ish with a mix of some warmth.

I think blues would go well, either a pale blue or a dark blue, not navy but kind of like a RL Tartan Blue.

I also love red....a deep red like RL Hunting Coat Red.

No I dont have moulding.

I guess the color is showing up all wrong b/c blue would not go. It would look very collegiate to me.

I think red would go but I think red in a bedroom might be too bright. Does anyone have a red bedroom?

I was thinking of a light taupe/dark taupe combination but the drapes would have to go. They were not that expensive but I feel like its such a waste, you know?

Stef, what about cranberry? Not red, really...sort of muted red w/purplish tones, but definitely NOT purple...CRANBERRY is the best way to describe the color I'm imagining that would look really nice w/those drapes.

Is that as clear as mud for you?

It's so hard to get a true idea of a color on-line...the drapes in the first picture look almost olive-y green on my monitor!

I don't think that a brown will clash...maybe a brown with undertones that will pick up the blonde in the curtains? Or a warm brown glaze??

I like the idea of using a reddish tone but Im afraid it will be too much. Plus I think Luke will want to kill me for adding more reddish tones to the house :D But its a definite contender.

SS: If my drapes were more neutral (like the ones you posted) I think the brown family would work. But there is more gold in the drapes. When I think of gold and brown, it doesnt work in my head, you know. And i dont want to go too light either.

What about a nice plum color? That would look really nice against the drapes. I also like the idea of cranberry.

Maybe I should just buy new drapes? Luke will probably freak but if I go and get this color instead, it will work with pretty much anything and he will probably not even notice:

I say remove the barrier to your creativity and buy curtains that will work with your vision (and not the other way around). I've been there, done that and its just not worth the headaches or the *time*

My DH gets upset with me when I want to get rid of 'perfectly good curtains/comforters/pillows/etc' because I am changing the look of our home.

Do you donate? That was a compromise that made him happy. I donate the items and the tax deduction seemed to soothe the savage beast.

Yes, we donate pretty much everything but I just bought these a few months ago so it annoys me to have to trash them. I will probably save them anyway - you never know when they might come in handy.
