I'm a vegetarian, so we were considering having an all or mostyl vegetarian wedding. It woudlnlt be boring stuff. We'd like to find a caterer who can make creative, yummy dishes!
What would you think as a guest? Would it not be your tastes? Would you think it was cheap? Would you think it was interesting? Would you just be glad the couple was expressing their own tastes?
Thanks!

Honestly unless you have a lot of poeple who are vegetarians I wouldn't do it. Maybe you can have a veg dish as a dinner selection?

i think that it would be better to offer vegetarian dishes than to cater the whole affair vegetarian. jmho.

Why wouldnlt you do it? You don't have to be a vegetarian to eat vegetarian food...
I'm just wodnerign what people think.. Is it really that important to have the standard fish/chicken/beef choice?

I would be totally annoyed if I went to a veg only wedding. Definately have a veg choice or two but please don't make it veg only.

To be honest, if most of your guests are not vegetarian - I wouldn't do a veg. wedding. I def. think that you could expand on the typical veg. choices to suit your and your FH - but I would have meat choices for your guests.

If most of your guests are veggie, than go ahead. Otherwise, you can have a variety of vegetarian dishes to select from.
We did this at our wedding since we have many relatives who are vegetarian. We even had a specific entree for them called Sicialian Eggplant, which was a big hit. We also made sure there were more than just pastas available to them at the CH.
ETA: Our hall did not charge us extra for the special vegetarian entree we chose which was in addition to our normal 3 choices of beef/chicken/fish.

Re: What do you think of a vegetarian wedding?
Well, I wouldn't think it was cheap because I can only imagine that special food requests like that would cost money. I'm the type of person that like to try new things and especially foods so I'd be open to it, but generally speaking, most people aren't like that when it comes to food. I would think it a bit inconsiderate of your guests tastes if you had a completely vegetarian reception because even at a non-vegetarian wedding, there is usually at least ONE vegetarian option... you could do a mostly vegetarian wedding and add alot of interesting veggies dishes and that would express your tastes without making your guests feel unwelcome.

Re: What do you think of a vegetarian wedding?
If the bride and grooms are vegetarians, it makes perfect sense to have a vegetarian reception.
I would just stress that the food be normal food that both vegetarians and meat eaters are used to eating. Things like starches and fruit and veggies.
I think if someone told me the menu was going to be all vegetarian, that might scare me a bit into think its going to be all bean sprouts and soy...but that doesnt have to be the case.
So my suggestion would be to go to an excellent caterer who does all kinds of food and just have them create a vegetarian menu...rather than going with a vegetarian caterer who really emphasiszes that aspect. Does that make sense?

Unless most of your guests are vegetarians, don't do it. You need to offer options other than what you would like. Also, not everyone can eat certain vegetables or pastas. Actually, I probably wouldn't even go to a wedding if it were vegetarian. There's a lot of stuff I wouldn't be able to eat.

This is true, but I also think that people should have that choice.
ETA: Pasta is usually a good alternative that people don't normally consider vegetarian.

Re: What do you think of a vegetarian wedding?
If your hall allows you to have selections why not have a few veggie, chicken and a fish. That way you give everyone a choice. Personally, I am not a veggie person and would be really disappointed if I got a plate full of veggies no matter how creative it is.

Re: What do you think of a vegetarian wedding?
I don't really understand the strong aversion to all veggie food. I think I'm probably going to go with a place that has a caterer that si experienced with veggie food and make it 1/2 and 1/2...a LOT more veggie food than you'd see at a normal wedding, but some standrds that epople like....I REFUSE to do a carving station though, or serve veal, lamb or any other baby animal..
ETA: 'you can have pasta, right' is sooo annoying..you don't know how many times we go out palces and I end up eating pasta or french fries or something..it's just not a meal, and it's so inconsiderate when people have something like that for vegetarians, or like a 'veggie plate' that's just a plte full of random vegetables...

I agree, don't do it if you're the only vegetarian. I wouldn't think you're cheap though but I don't know if it would be a good idea.

'for the most part, people want meat.'
Honestly, if I don't believe in eating meat, I don't know why I should feel obligated to serve it to anyone, and I don't know why it outs people out so much to not eat meat for one meal of their lives. it isn't as if you must have meat at every meal
