What do you think of my vows?

My FH and I are writing our own vows and we set some ground rules: 5 sentences and end it with 'this is my solemn vow.' I've been working on mine and would love some honest feedback. Please tell me if there's anything you think I could do to improve them.

Steve, it’s taken us a long time to get here, but that time has been filled with growth, both individually and as a couple. Throughout all of the ups and downs, I have never doubted that we would be standing here today. I promise, in front of our family and friends, to care for you and support you through whatever life throws our way. I promise to be faithful to you and to never let you doubt my love for you, or the eternal strength of that love. This is my solemn vow.

Oh I wish I could hear you say it. It's beautiful. The only suggestion I have is to add a forever somewhere (hey I just like that word).Oh, I love the never doubting the eternal strength of that love part.

The only line I'm not sure of is the 'never let you doubt that love.' I don't really like the flow of it.

I made some changes, what do you think?

I like this one better. The only thing I would alter slightly is the 'Today we take two lives and turn them into one.' Sounds like you're removed from this - maybe we take our two lives or something?

Your vows are beautiful! Really perfect, I think. But I like the original MUCH better. The revised version says nothing about being faithful, and if you aren't happy with 'whatever life throws our way' , you can say 'whatever life brings us'.

Or 'whatever our journey through life brings us' -- that kind of brings in the 'joining of the two lives into it' without making it sound like you are officiating the ceremony rather than being IN it.

Honestly, I love the original version! It got me teary eyed too! *sniffle*

Honestly, and no offense to anyone here as I know we are all trying to be helpful, I would just keep the words as you felt them when you first wrote them. I feel like you've made a few revisions based on everyone else. But they are your words and your vows. I think they were just beautiful from the start. I too now have chills. :)

Are you getting married in a church? Do you know if the catholic church allows you to write your own vows?
