Who take advantage of the system? Meaning all of the agencies who help those .. and it makes me sick to see MY taxes paying for people who don't need the help when there are so many people out there that do!
I think there should be a hotline to report these people!

Re: What do you think of people?
The only reason that the Swiss have a comprable percentage of 'disability' to the U.S. is b/c they provide disability insurance to pregnant women. They take much better care of their people than we do. We take care of corporations instead-even when they take the jobs oversees or pad the pockets of their CEOs. Doesn't make an ounce of sense.
the Swiss (and Europeans in general) pay alot more in taxes than we do (over 50%) so they should get more back than americans do
they also get gov't health care...educational opportunities...6 weeks vacation!!!
but it depends what your opinion is on economic systems...do you want to use your money and decide what you want to do with the money...or give it to the goverenment and let them decide...
also...European nations are MUCH smaller and have smaller populations...

Re: What do you think of people?
the average layoff is 9 months?! that means I have two more months before I get a job?
I'm on unemployment, l'm not proud of it, but its helps pay the bills (maxes out at a whopping $1480/month in CA). I don't think its abusing the system - Its money I'm entitled to considering I worked for 3.5 years (at that company) paying into it.
I've been actively looking for a job for 5 months (the same amount of time I've been on unemployment) and it s ucks out there! Tough enough getting someone to read your resume let alone call you in for an interview. I was convinced I'd get the last job I interviewed for, but I found out yesterday they made an offer to someone else. I can't handle much more rejection.
I do have it a little easier (financially) than some friends since I have Al's income as well. But if it was just me, I'd have to of moved by now, because I can't afford my share of the expenses on my own. And I can't get another job to supplement my income - any additional income gets subtracted from my unemployment (unless is off the books), so basically, I'd be working for nothing and have less time for the job search. How fair its that?
Cross you fingers - its runs out in July. I hope to have a job by then.

Re: What do you think of people?
FI has a friend who abuses the system badly, to the point that i don't want FI to bring up his name!!! friend 'claimed' to have a disability, so his company did the right thing, put him out on disability, paid him and gave him time to have his problem fixed. of course, this was 2 days after he got back from a $15k HM that he didn't complain once about his disability during!!!! anyway, he goes out, has surgery, heals for a few months, comes back and after 2 days claims he can't work due to his 'disability' - eye issues. company puts him back out on disability (100% of pay) and discovers that he spends his days on the internet all day!! HELLO - you had to go out on disability since you claimed your eyes were bad that you couldn't do your job, but they're okay enough to play on the internet all day on the company's $$$??? needless to say the company fired him and now he's suing the company for wrongful termination!! W T F????
sorry to ramble - needed to vent about this and FI and I don't see 100% eye to eye.

I look at it this way. If it costs me about $50 in FICA to keep these people where they want to be, it creates more opportunity for me.
'Unfortunately its cheaper to pay out than to weed out. ' 'They may actually have to pay social workers more money to get the job done. ' I do believe there are people who need help and should get it, but I agree if you can move in bed and have sex then your arse can get up and go to work.

Re: What do you think of people?
These 'people' are just a reflection of our society. So many people are walking around right now thinking the government 'owes' them something. Why they feel like this, I have no idea.
The sad thing is that it is not just the unemployed, the 'fake disabled' and all the other do-nothings out there who are taking advantage of the 'system.'
I am have been working for a federal judge for 8 months and in that time i have seen two doctors, making over one million dollars a year, get convicted of numerous counts of medicare and healthcare fraud. They have three offices, they bill their time in all three---at the SAME time. One doctor was billing for patients while he was away on vacation for over a month.
People will always abuse the system...rich people, poor people, stupid people, smart people....because they can and they feel they deserve every penny they get...and that is what is scary.
