What if you don't register for China?

Original post by Tjay

Just wondering....has anybody not registered for China? I do not think I will ever use it and feel that I would like to replace it with other things that are more needed. My FH and I are not 'classie' entertainers. Just curious.

I didn't register for china, and really didn't want it. But my family was appalled by this and bought it anyway. So now I have to register for all the pieces I'm missing....

A lot of people do not register for it. I did, because my parents never had that kind of stuff and wanted it to pass down to my own children one day.

we didn't. the guy @ BBB was pressuring us to put it on our registry. we had to tell him like 10 times that we'd rather people put the money towards something else!

Thanks.....it makes me feel better that it is not taboo not to. Now the tough part will be breaking it to my mom, but like everything else I am sure she'll get over it. I feel better.

If she feels so bad, then maybe she'll end up buying it for you.

I initially was not going to register for china, but I changed my mind because (like someone else mentioned) I didn't want to feel like I was missing out on something...Plus I have a dining room, so I want it to be nice.

By the way...You could always go to an outlet or something and buy a completed (less expensive) set if you felt regretful later on!

I agree that if you aren't 'china' people then you shouldn't register for it. I think it is such a waste when people register for formal china and their friends/family buy it for them and they never use it. It is expensive and if you aren't going to use it there is no point in having it. I personally use mine fairly often, I enjoy cooking and entertaining. Sometimes, I use it even if it is just DH and I. I feel that as long as your pattern is still available any piece that breaks is replaceable. Plus, if you have Lenox and register your china online you can replace it at a 50% discount.

we did not register for fomral china, only an everyday set of Pfaltzgraff dishes. We inherited my Grandmothers' Mikasa Bone China set (service for 12)

We registered for our china, and got all of the place settings....... but i'm a huge nerd when it comes to that sort of thing....even in or small co-op i had to have a small china cabinet to display it in......i haven't used it yet, but i'm missing a lot of serving pieces, so it would be strange to use it, i think

We compromised by registering for a really nice set of 'casual china' that can double as our fine china. (It's simple, and can be dressed up or down.)

But to answer your question: 'What if you don't register for China?' - The sky will fall! Hee hee! Just kidding! At worst, like some of the ladies have said, some people might end up buying you some anyway.

We didn't register for it either. I bought it myself when Fprtunoff was having a sale. It's Mikasa with the plain platinum trim and I bought service for 12 for $400 I think. I did register for some serving pieces to complete it, but noone has bought any of it yet.
