just wondering what everyone is doing to save $ for the wedding. FH and i are paying the majority of the wedding ourselves so we are trying to cut a lot of costs from now till then. These are the things that we are doing..... We used to get food out a lot but now we are trying really hard to only buy food out 1 night a week (ie: like fast food, pizza, chinese food, etc.) we decided to try to only go to a restaurant once a month.
Also, i now have a part time job on saturdays and i am trying to work most saturdays from now till the wedding ( i am aiming for at least 3 saturdays out of the month)...my second job pays really well, the hourly rate is actually higher than at my full time job since they do not have to give me benefits.
We also decided that any time his parents want to invite us to dinner we will go, since they always pay (so bad, i know! but they like to!)
FH is going to try to find another job too, but it is more difficult to find per diem/part time work in his field.
any other ideas?? obviously i am trying not to go shopping as much, but when it gets closer to the honeymoon i will want to buy some cute outfits, etc. to wear there!

Re: what is everyone doing to save for the wedding?
We used to go out every weekend and easily spend between 100 and 200. We used to go to the movies at least twice a month. That all adds up. We dont usually do that stuff anymore, maybe once a month. We used to order out for dinner and lunch during the week or weekends so now we cook home a lot more. I stopped using me credit cards because im blowing money on interest too.

Re: what is everyone doing to save for the wedding?
we put both tax returns into our wedding fund. Luckily we both are not paying but receiving this year.
we do not eat out anymore
we never went out on dates anyway except for grabbing dinner on occasion so luckily we never really spent on ourselves that way anyway.
NO trips this year. We normally go away for a extended weekend twice a year or one big week long trip but not this year.
Beer/Social drinking completely limited to once a month when it was a weekly event for us.
no expensive foods purchased-everything must be on sale and inexpensive otherwise it doesn't get purchased. NO FAIRWAY, Gemellies, the pasta shops, butchers, etc. Just pathmark, stop and shop, waldbuams, king kullens.
No doctor visits - i have no health insurance so i haven't visit a dentist, any doctors etc since engagement and will not till we are married or i get a job with benefits. FH has health insurance but refuses to go to the doctor anyway or get new glasses, anything that could cost him.
Think that covers it.

Trying not to buy myself stuff. Not using the credit card. Limiting ourselves on where and how much we go out. Not buying lunch. FH is getting a second job partime. I also want to buy some cute clothes for the honeymoon. I was thinking the same thing. So I am actually trying to figure that cost also.

Re: what is everyone doing to save for the wedding?
We are setting aside money each paycheck, an ammount we agreed we could save each time and putting it in a savings account. If we can do more because of overtime or something we put extra in the savings account.
It's really not that hard and we are a little under halfway to our budget!!! If this trend continues we might be able to up our budget!
It's not easy, but making dinner rather than ordering out and shopping less plus working any overtime that we can helps!
Good luck!

we arent doing too much. FH and I don't really spend like crazy. I try not to spend money on things i dont need. and FH doesnt have too many expenses. the bad thing is.. as a first yr teacher in the city im buying crap all the time and paying for copies.
FH and I don't see each other until the weekends and live at home so we still continue to go out to eat one night a week. It forces us to spend quality time together out of the house.
We did put our engagement party money in a CD.

that is what we are doing also. every single thing we get for our engagement goes into an e-savings account and builds interest. I don't care if we need extra money sometimes i refuse to touch it so it adds up

Re: what is everyone doing to save for the wedding?
funny that someone should bring this up. We used to go out to dinner every friday and saturday night to some nice restaurants. For the past year now (almost) we've been only eating out one night a weekend and we usually try to keep the cost of that dinner down - nothing too crazy unless its a special occassion and the other night we usually grab something at his parents house.
Just yesterday though FH was telling me how he feels bad that he doesn't take me out to nice dinners anymore or surprise me with flowers like he used to and i told him 'hun it's okay I rather skip that and put the money towards dance lessons' Funny how priorities change!

Re: what is everyone doing to save for the wedding?
We both set aside money. We make catering hall payments when due and make down payments with other vendors as we book also with the money we set aside.
We go out to eat once a week but nothing too fancy anymore. We only really get the weekends so we do like to do things. Usually we rent blockbuster instead of going to the movies a lot more than we used to.
I personally don't use my credit cards anymore.
But mostly it's putting aside money first thing each paycheck.
