I'AM A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED AND I KNOW I SOULD NOT BE. YOU SEE MY FI HAS THREE SISTERS ONE IS ABOUT MY AGE 24 AND HER FI PROPOSED TO HER ON 02/13/03 AND THEIR DAY IS 09/29/04. Re: what is everyone's buget on their wedding
Of course it can be less than $50,000, mine is, I have a band, you just have to budget yourself, sorry if my post was mis-leading.

nickrocs22 -
Be aware of those friends & family that offer too much input - they are simply dangerous to your planning process. I had friend who was trying to tell me what a wedding costs - ON HER TERMS!
We are all different, and have different financial situations. My budget is $20-$25k and I am so happy with everything we have booked so far.
#1 rule - do your research, and talk with the vendors explaining your price range. They are flexible, and if they won't accomodate you in some way or another, there are plenty of other vendors that will.
If you are trying to stick to a budget, you need to go in with your head and heart, as opposed to just the heart when it comes to these things!
Good luck!

Re: what is everyone's buget on their wedding
I think you can do a beautiful wedding for whatever your budget. I have been to elegant weddings that were 20K and others that were easily 100K. You just have to make decisions on what you want to splurge on and what you want to budget on. You have some time to shop around.
Hey when my family lived in Nashville weddings often cost families 60-80,000 and were held in people's backyard (cocktails and passed food and cake - no sit down meal) Why - because it was customary to have flowers at your wedding that cost between 30-50,000 (and remember this was 16 years ago).
Your wedding is what you make of it. You can have a beautiful wedding for almost any price.

Jess2: Don't worry, I was agreeing with you...
Theresa: I am just saying, once again, that it's your prefence... With the rent we are paying now, car payments, student loans, wedding savings, etc...and we are paying for teh bulk of teh wedding, not our parents.
We would rather stick to a less expensive wedding, even though we are having roughly 250 people, and it's not that we are skimping...We just did it on an off month on an off day on Leap Year Day. Our goal is to be in a house by the end of teh year(2004). For us, we can not have both.

My parents aren't paying for our wedding either..
They offered but I don't want them to. They are going to give us a gift in which we can use for a house DP..
It really doens't matter!

I also think if you saw my bills you would faint....
Plus I am getting married once and No one will ever forget my wedding!
What I meant is it doesn't matter if you think what I am doing is wrong!

Re: what is everyone's buget on their wedding
$50,000 . ChippaTriD and I (like she mentioned) are getting married on a Saturday in September and we are both staying either below or within our budget. Like Rob-luvs-me mentioned, you need to do research on every vendor that you need and want and compare what they are offering you and at what price. You can definetaly have a beautiful wedding for under that.

Re: what is everyone's buget on their wedding
That is NUTS!!! My wedding is also going to be max $30K. You can have a nice wedding without spending your whole life savings plus $$$ you don't have

Re: what is everyone's buget on their wedding
Where are you getting this from? DId I say what you are doing is wrong? I am not you, does that mean I think just because you are having a big wedding that you are crazy? FYI: My sister's wedding of 140 people is costing her $50,000... That is her preference. Who am I to judge her?
And yes, I, too, am getting married once and only once... and I am sure my day will be the way that I want it. If people don't want to trek all the way out Babylon on a Sunday in Winter to see me get married, that is not my problem. My wedding will be teh way I want it, just as yours will be teh way you want it.

Re: what is everyone's buget on their wedding
I think the bottom line is that everyone's budget is different and there are a lot of factors that go into it...your financial situation, family contributions, # of guests, time of year/day of wedding, reception location, personal preferences, etc., etc., etc. I don't think anyone meant to insult anyone else. Some people can afford to spend 50K on a wedding and still pay for a house, others can not. Everyone makes a personal decision about their wedding budget with different goals in mind. There is nothing wrong with spending 50K+ on a wedding and there is nothing wrong with spending much less. I think everyone of us will have a beautiful wedding regardless of how much it costs us. But I think it is fair to say that you don't HAVE to spend 50K to have a nice wedding.

Re: what is everyone's buget on their wedding
Welcome OMG - 50K for a 'nice' wedding For that price, I would be getting married in Italy... lol Honey, you can have a nice/beautiful wedding for well under that price tag. My FH and I are paying for everything ourselves, so we made a buget of 15K, but know we will probably end up in the low 20's, just because our reception all was 10k alone... We are having ~130 people attend. It is possible to have a beautiful wedding for any price tag, it has to be what you like...that is all that matters. No one is going to ask how much you are spending on each vendor, nor do they have to know how much each plate cost at your reception site. As long as the food it great tasting, people will assume it was expensive and you pulled the wool over their eyes when in reality maybe you only paid $65 pp (It is possible). Try to focus on 'Your' wedding, not that relative... when you start comparing everything, you will be causing yourself more stress than needed. Best of luck to you and have fun. You have plenty of time
