What is everyone's housing plans for those who can afford a house?

What is everyone's housing plans for those who can afford a house?

We're 99% sure we're going to move to North Carolina... houses are way too expensive and if we rent, we'll never be able to save. In the meantime, until we find jobs in NC, we're goign to live home at my house - hopefully won't be more than 2 months. (with MOm and brother) has anyone else lived at home right after the wedding?

We are going to start looking at houses after we get married in june '06! But, we are going to look in Florida. He has most of his fam there and my mom is looking to move there too. Plus, one of my best friends just moved there and the houses are sooooooooo much cheaper so we can actually afford a house! HOpefully we'll find jobs and we can move down ASAP after the wedding. Yay!

We got a town house apartment in Florida and will be looking for a house probably next summer, so we have some time to save.

OMG this is too fun. This is EXACTLY what FH and I have been thinking of doing. My sister just moved down to North Carolina - 20 min outside Charolotte. They built this house for cheap - considering LI prices.

My FH and I feel like we will never be able to afford anything here and we both aren't in these insanely high paying jobs, so what do we got to loose? If we don't like it, we can always come back.

we just bought a house and we are in the process of fixing it...hopefully it will be ready for when we move in (my father is in home improvement, so we've pretty much been doing all the work)

Like many of you, FH and I are fed up with the cost of living on LI. We're going to begin looking for a house in Pennsylvania, probably sometime this summer.

You can get so much more house for your money out there!

I will be devastated if we have to buy outside of the city or surrounding area. I've lived here all my life. Plus my career is here. I guess we'll keep renting (have a great deal) until we hit Lotto.

FH has owned one since 98... we are 34 and 37 so we were able to buy before the boom. I don't know how you younger girls can do it with wedding expenses, student loans, car loans etc.

That was one advantage of me being single until 33... I socked money away. I used to tell my friends... 'rich but lonely' instead of 'marrried and broke'

I just got back from AZ and we are trying to buy an investment property down there. The prices are going up but still way cheaper than here.

Brand new houses 2500 sq ft for $300,000 in a really good area with a pool. Taxes $1100/year. It's insane.

FH and I are in contract on a townhouse in VA. We close on July 8th.

The prices are only slightly better down here, but taxes are a whole lot lower. $300,000 = about 1900 or 2000 a year.

We bought a house in Commack back in November. We haven't moved in yet (don't ask) but that's where we'll be for the next few years. We plan on moving closer to the water eventually.

I've tried to live out of state. Heck my entire family lives out of state now but I always came back so I just gave up. This is where I belong.

Congratulation and good luck to all you moving. I LOVE NC! So beautiful there!

FI rents and is moving in with me. I bought my coop in 1997 - a foreclosure that is worth nearly 6 X's what I paid for it per the last appraisal I had done in early 2004

FH and i are looking to go down south too. Georgia or the carolina's. I just graduated with my teaching degree and can't find any jobs up here. Hopefully we'll be able to find jobs there and get away from this ridiculously expensive island.

We currently rent in NYC. We can't afford to buy in NYC and even if we did, I don't think I want to spend that much on an apt.

Our current lease is up in February - I would like to buy a coop/condo in Forest Hills or Bayside. If that's not possible, then I guess we'll just rent for a little while longer. I just want to move out of this apt!! I hate it!!! It's a 5th floor walk up!!
