Re: what % says 'no'?
it depends on your guests??? I had an affair about 10 years ago and literally all of the guests that were invited ATTENDED!!! no that does not happen often and there are always surprises and last minute things that come up but you never know

So far I have 9 replies and they are all yes But seriously I think the avg. is 20% that don't come. We are like you, we invited like 280. Our minimum is 200. I am hoping for as close to 200 as possible.

Re: what % says 'no'?
We all seem to say the same thing ... I have 230 guests but am hoping for around 190.
Let me ask you this though, can you honestly look at your list and say you want certain people to say no? I keep saying, oh hopefully we'll have under 200, but then I look at my list and cannot think of anyone I would WANT to say no to my wedding. I want everyone on my list there with me.
It just hit me the other day when FH were talking about cutting the list and minimums and we really took a look and said wow, there's not many people on here that we would want to NOT come just so we have a lower number. The only thing really was the very single friends/family we invite with guests, who wants strange dates at our wedding :)

that's the thing... there is no one that we are inviting that I want to say no... but there is no way our room will hold everyone... FH gets frustrated when we talk about the list and I tell him if we had an unlimited amt of $$$ I would invite everyone I know... but we need to be rational... I am just nervous about my room being able to hold everyone...

Do you know of definite 'no's'? I mean people that you know cannot make it, but you are sending the invitation anyway out of respect. How about those single guests that you know will not being a date even if they are invited with one? There are probably 10-15 people that will be knocked off because of those things above from my list.

Re: what % says 'no'?
We've been dealing with the same thing. Last night, we sat down and looked over our guest list and there were over 200 people on it. I couldn't believe it. I hate to have to trim the list but don't want to rely on 'no's' and then end up having too many people.
Its hard to cut though, considering the list consists of all family and friends. I look at it and wonder how to decide who not to invite. I'm thinking of doing an A and B list as another alternative but ultimately for what we can 'afford' and considering room capacity, I'm pretty sure the list will end up shortened.

Don't count on it. I still haven't received any 'no's' I am starting to get worried.

Re: what % says 'no'?
I know you cannot count on it but you cannot just invite the minimum, you'd be sure to not meet it then ... It's like playing roulette, what number do you have to be at so that in the end you get as close to the minimum (or your budget) on the wedding day?

a lot of our guests can go either way...they may make the trip and come to the wedding or not want to go b/c of traveling... I am not sure...

Re: what % says 'no'?
fh's cousin told us that only 2 PEOPLE said no at her wedding!! she had over-invited and her room ended up being much more crowded than anticipated. i don't think this is too common, but i'm still worried...
the max capacity of my ballroom is 152. we are inviting about 140, hoping to get 125. but if all 140 come, they should all fit...

Re: what % says 'no'?
With 268 guests, I'm sure you'll have a fair amount that say no. 10-20% seems accurate.
