What song did you / are you walking down the aisle to?
Original post by sarahdavid
We're meeting with the church music people soon and I was just wondering what songs you girls walked down to. I like the wedding march but I heard its discouraged in church. Is this true?

The Wedding March is very discouraged and not played at Jewish weddings.
Mendelssohn was a rabid anti-semite so his music is not played for Jewish weddings.
Maybe that whats you heard in some form. So I dont think its discouraged in christian/church weddings.
I will be walking down the aisle to 'Love Changes Everything' from the musical 'Aspects of Love'.
As someone that majored in music history in college, I just want to correct this! There are two wedding marches--one by Wagner and one by Mendelssohn. Mendelssohn was actually Jewish--he hid that fact though because of religious persecution. Wagner's music was later used by Hitler in terrible ways, such as being played in concentration camps, and that is why the Wedding March is so discouraged at Jewish Weddings. Nonetheless, I totally agree though that I would not play it either.

We had an outdoor garden wedding. The wedding party walked to Canon by D-Pachelbel and I walked down to 'Everything'- Lifehouse. I'm not sure about the church's policy, it really depends on how strict the church is with the music.

I've never heard of it being discouraged in a church, wedding march that is, it was one of the recommended songs on the list from my church and I'm using that, the bridal party will walk to Canon in D

Thanks everyone. I made all of my music selections with the church. The bridal party is walking down to Canon in D and I'm doing 'here comes the bride'. I can't wait!

Re: What song did you / are you walking down the aisle to?
I got married in a church and it was supposed to be cannon in D for the bridal party and wedding march for me....the organist screwed up and did the parents to cannon and the whole bridal party and myself to here comes the bride. I was so annoyed. No one was sure when I was coming out and it didn't feel special when the song started playing. Not to mention she made so many mistakes, I cringed when I watched the video. It was like a little kid practicing, ugh. I heard after the fact, that a few years ago she did the same thing to someone else I know.
