This is so sad. When I lived in Huntington it was so nice, it really isnt a great area anymore.

I did my student teaching at Huntington and now my friend works there. She said in the last week there have been 11 fights in the middle school and the school is doing nothing about it.

And this is the middle school. Hello, what are they fighting about in eighth grade???

I strongly diagree, I have lived in Huntington almost my whole life, the village is like having a little piece of the city on Long Island, it is VERY rare that we have incidents like these in the village, kids have just gotten out of control! Some of the kids were not even from around here. The town is still one of the most desired and affluent towns to live in on Long Island . There are some shady areas of course but they are much more south of the main Huntington area.

My husband and daughter were at the movies when this happened and guess what, Huntington has always been a 'brawling' type of town since we have so many bars, but now the kids carry weapons, that is the only difference.

yeah, i dont enjoy going to the movies there anymore..the kids just hang out there with nothing better to do..

sad cause the movie theather is nice and quiet inside...it just takes an arm and a leg to get inside with all the kids hanging outside

I have to disagree. There aren't many incidents like that (the brawl) in the village. The shooting happened down in the Station. It's actually a pretty yuppy and affluent area. In fact, I think the village and town has been improving over the past several years.

A statement like that is enough for me to NOT want to live there.

I'm sure Huntington has beautiful areas, (areas I'm sure I can't afford)...but for someone like me who is house hunting on LI...hearing someone from the very same town, say that it's always been a brawling type of town, with so many bars, to me is just a turn off. JMHO

this was COMPLETELY taken out of context. i have lived in huntington almost my WHOLE life as well and i assure you that the village is a VERY safe area even in the wee hours of the night. sure there are bar brawls, but that is expected of any town (huntington, oyster bay, port jefferson, babylon etc..) that has a thriving night life.

it is too bad that you would let this 1 unfortunate incident negatively affect your view of huntington.

but that is exactly my point........I don't know the area at all...and to hear something negative like that, turns me off.....Also, like I said before, I'm sure huntington has beautiful areas where its 'affluent' as another bride stated...but I am SURE I can't afford to live in the more 'affluent' area.

I think that there are really great parts of huntington but there are A LOT of SEEDY areas as well...
On the way to pick up my dads tux on 110 we saw a shooting, right after it happened..Thousand of cops everywhere looking for the shooter....

This was at 1:30 on a sat afternoon!

i do agree that the 'station' is not an area where i would aspire to live. however, the areas surrounding the village and those to the west, east, and north are very nice and highly sought after neighborhoods.

I didn't mean it that way. You get one football player who drinks too much and gets rowdy in a bar and a fight can break out. It's like a college town, nothing to be scared of. I had a GREAT time growing up in Huntington, I will NEVER move! SKEW nows what I mean, this is a great town with lots of culture and entertainment. Everyone knows eachother and families are usually old friends, but when you put a bunch of bars within a 2 mile radius.l there are bound to be some fights, like I said it's like a college town.
