What time did you put on your invite?

Did you put the actual time of the start of the ceremony, or did you put earlier than that? I hope that my guests know enough that if I say 11:30 it means the ceremony is starting at 11:30. But what if people are arriving then? There's a straight shot from the door out through the back to the patio where we're going to be married--I don't want to hear people arriving and saying 'Oh, ****, they started already!' But I don't want to put a whole half hour earlier, as then I'll have people hanging around and I don't know if we have anything to give them.

And if you're having the ceremony in the same place as the reception, did the venue start serving anything when people arrive? Drinks, at least? I'll have to ask my manager. I'd like to have at least lemonade or iced tea for them when they arrive, some will be driving a long way.

My ceremony is at 3:30, but my family is ALWAYS late so I'm thinking of stating it about 15 minutes before to give everyone a little room. Besides, if we are more than 15 minutes late, my church will have a fit!

our RH told us that we should put the exact time of the ceremony on the invite and that we could start a little later if needed but they did not want people showing up really early when they were not ready and were still setting up. They are having cocktails and cookies for guests as they arrive.

Our hall told us to put an earlier time b/c they serve champagne and little snacks. We're just doing 30 minutes. At my sister's wedding, she had put 30 minutes earlier on the invite and as the ceremony was going on, about 45 minutes after the stated time on the invite, we see my mom's cousin drive by on a golf cart on her way! It was pretty funny and typical of her. People will always be late no matter what time you put!
