WHAT TO DO W/ BFF Wedding Gown??

Original post by Roed522

My bestfriend, who would have been my MOH passed away suddenly in November. This was someone that I spoke to just about everyday. I was closer with her than with my own sisters. Needless to say that her passing has been very difficult to accept and deal with. Anyways, her DH just sent me her wedding gown. The dress itself isn't in the best condition, not to mention that she got married in 89. I did tell him that I wasn't planning on wearing because I already bought my dress but that I did want to use it in some way, the material that is. The dress has a lot of lace and beading and I'm looking for ways to use the fabric so that I can have that part of her there with me on my wedding day. I truly am lost without her and just need to find ways to remember her on that day without it being upsetting.
Any suggestions??? TIA

i'm really sorry you're going through this hard time ...veil, bouquet wrap, ring bearer pillow, christening outfit, the possibilities are endless, she will be with you every step of the way !

I am soo sorry for your loss..

What about using the material as a veil or garter..
Or you can save it for when you have a child and use it as the christening gown..

jesus, im so sorry..

theres so many little accessories for the wedding day, definatly incorporate the lace into them- garter, hankerchief, purse or card purse, veil, bo-k wrap, shoes... Are you doing a unity candle? If so, you can wrap the center of the candle with the lace & tie that together with a ribbon. I'd also do a memory candle for her at your RH, and incorporate the lace into that too.

I am so sorry

If the lace is in still good condition, why not incorporate it into your veil? You can also make a clutch out of the material and a garter.

That is a wonderful idea to have some part of it with you at your wedding. How about making your ring pillow with some of it and a hanky for you to carry. Then when you have a baby you can also use it for the christening outfit.

Good luck!

Maybe you can use a little to wrap your bo-k.

You can have a hankie made from it and embroide something to remember her. and you can use the res tof it to make a christening dress in the future.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, that is terrible.

How about using some material as the wrap for your bouquet? I've seen that done and it's beautiful. Or some of the lace on your veil? Or to make the ring pillow and/or the flowergirl basket?

I'm sooo sorry for your loss. You can do many things with the material. Make a bag purse, a Handkerchief, a garter, etc. Plus in the future if you have kids depending on what religion you are my mother made a Christening gown for me from my grandmother's gown. I am sure you will think of something. Keep your head up she will be there with you in spirit.

Try to incorporate pieces of it in your wedding bo-k, perhaps as a corset for the stems, or taking the beadwork and using that around the stems. Cut a piece of the dress and pin it inside yours. Can you make a wrap out of parts of the dress ? 1989 dresses were quite poofy and lacy.

It is a lovely sentiment, and a wonderful way to keep the memory of your BFF with you on your special day. As some others have posted, you can also have a seamstress a baptism outfit from the fabric of the dress if it is in ok condition.

I wouldn't cut it up..... it's too sentimental.

what about making a victorian style corner, with an old-style wire/wood dress form wearing the dress.... it could be next to the placecard table with flowers and candles....

i love the idea of using part of the dress for your bo-k wrap, and another for a mantilla.

OMG, I'm so so very sorry for your loss. My BFF is my MOH too and I don't know what I would do. My heart goes out to you.

You could probably do so many things with her gown.

Why don't you ask the place that you got your gown from. They may have more suggestions.

I think the suggestions that the other ladies have mentioned make a veil, bok holder, hanky are wonderful.

Is it in good condition to make a veil?
wrap some material around your /BM BO-K stems?
part of it decorate the memorial candle?

I agree... Try something like this.

Maybe take it to a seamstress and see if they have suggestions.

I'm so sorry for your loss...
