I coach 7th and 8th grade cheerleading at the school I teach in and at our game today the girls were talking about wanting to come to the ceremony. It just so happens that my church is the town next to where I teach, actually a few of my girls attend my church.
So my question is 1. Should I invite them to the ceremony? 2. If yes, what kind of invitation should I do since it is for the ceremony only and I am not wasting 20 of my invitations on them, it is too expensive. 3. Would their parents think it is weird if they got an invitation to their coaches wedding?
I think a few definetly really want to come, they were even talking about getting dreesed up and getting all excited.

Re: What would you do?
I would invite them! I would get cheap invitations that you can print yourself and just write the church and time, and forgo the reception site.
I remember my coach doing this when I was in 8th grade and we all went and got dressed up for the church! We loved her and wanted to be there for her!

I was going to create something cute with publisher or print shop for my track girls......maybe you could get some pretty paper from staples if you don't have either computer program...

I would invite them if you want them there.. but very informally! I would just mention where it is and the time and that they are welcome to come. I would just check w/your school first and make sure that it is okay before you do it!

I know a few of the teachers I teach with have had their students or athletes at their ceremonies, my school is fine with that

I like the flyer idea. Maybe I will make up a little poem about them cheering through football and basketball season and now they can cheer on their caoch as I get married and then put the info.

I'm a coach of a team too and all 25 of them want to come too. I told them I'm so sorry, but no. My personal life is for me...not for students. Close to them or not, just my opinion. They can see pictures and be equally as happy.

I am just going to tell my students where it is. Maybe just MAke up directions with time and things like that for them. A lot say they want to come, but they have to get a ride 30 minutes away. It will be nice if some of them come.

I understand, but I don't care at all if they come. I actually think it would be nice and I am sure some of the parents would come too.

What grade do you teach? As nice as I think it is and as much as not only do my girls want to come, but all of my students from this year and last want to come, I don't think it's a place for students to join with their teachers...that's just my opinion of course. If I were a parent, I'd be weary to get an invite to a church from a teacher, unless I'm a Catholic school teacher and can impose the word of God on their children.....I wouldn't want my kid to go. I don't know..this is something the teachers at work discuss often and the consensus is a big no! Maybe it's really different where you work...

Re: What would you do?
I invited my cheerleading team. Granted, I have been coaching them for years now.
I bought all purpose 4x6 cards at target and typed
'2,4,6,8 Mark your calendars and save the date
Coach Heather is getting married!'
I then added the time, date, and place on it.
I used varsity block font for the #s.

I am sure things are differnt in different schools. Like I said One of my friends got married last year and his soccer team came. And 2 years ago the lacrosse coach got married and some of her players went. I am pretty close with the parents of my cheerleaders and I know some of them would want to come.

Re: What would you do?
I think its cute when I was in HS (9th grade) i went to my cheer coaches wedding it was like my 'oooh i can't wait to be married' moment. It will be fun for them, Just make sure they understand its ceremony only and they are responsible for teaming up and getting thier parents to supply transportation.
I coach now too and i can understand the close relationship that is built between you and the students i mean you spend so much time together after school and on the weekends, to them your more than just a coach. GO FOR IT!

Re: What would you do?
When I was on the squad I was invited to a coach's wedding ceremony. she'd been our coach for years (high school) and none of the parents had a problem with us going. A few of the parents went as well, not as chaperones or anything but b/c it was a nice gesture to go to the Church...
I coached cheerleading for a while too... and if I was still coaching, I'd probably invite the girls to the church.
I say go for it.
i also really liked the idea above... the 2, 4, 6, 8 mark your calendar and save the date!
that's adorable and very appropriate.

My team LOVED it. They were so happy to get their own 'invitation'. hehe I thought the poem was clever. It was one of my more creative moments Best part... total cost was 7$
