What would you do if you found out that your e-ring was....'recycled'
DH and I were talking about one of his cousin's wive's diamonds. Turns out, the guy bought the diamond for his last girlfriend, but they broke up before he ever got a chance to propose.
When he met his now-wife, he reset the diamond and proposed to her with it.
And, the wife doesn't know...
what would you do?

Flip out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly I would make him return it/ sell it and buy me a different one. I would be really pissed
Although I told my BIL to do the same thing ( Not with an Ering!!) he had bought so much really nice $$$ jewelry for his last g/f and she never even more most of it. She did not appreciate it at all. So his new g/f happens to have the same birthstone that is in most of the jewelry. I told him to recycle it and so did his mom. So far he hasn't

I'm not sure how I would feel if I found out my diamond or e-ring was recycled. I think I would be a little annoyed, but I'm not sure it would bother me a whole lot.

Being that he never gave it to his ex, I don't know if I would care. If he had actually presented it and had it returned, that's another story.

That would not make me happy at all!!! I would be a little...ok...completely and totally pissed!!!
PS I do have a recycled diamond....but it's my Mommy's. That's the 'good' recycle diamond.

I wouldn't care. The value of diamonds decrease only after wear and tear. As long as he didn't give me the exact same one in the setting, I wouldn't care. They're expensive, and it's an item of significance w/a meaning behind it. It's more of the idea that matters than the actual object.

Eeewwww...sticky situation. If that happened to me, I would feel a little slighted. It would have been better to sell the diamond and start fresh with buying a new e-ring for wife. Bad Karma!

The fact that he reset is at least better than simply giving the same exact ring. I know that I, personally, would probably not take well to the idea..I guess I would just want a completely different diamond based on the sole fact that I was the one he was thinking about when picking my diamond. I know guys think a little differently than girls on these things (in most cases). He probably didn't attach too much emotional sentiment to the stone itself...but most girls definitely would!!

Not sure how I would feel in same situation.
I have a friend who gave her BF (now fiance) the ring from her former marriage. She told him that she does not know what to do with it, so she wants him to decide. She said she trusts him to make the right decision.
He went in to a jeweler to see how much $$ he could get, and wanted to use the $$ toward a diamond for their engagement. Jeweler said he could not offer much $$ for it so the guy decided to just pick out a new setting for it and give it to her.
When he gave it to her, she started to ask about if it was her old diamond, but stopped herself, saying that she does not need to know.
He told me--but they have never discussed it.
I think she would recognize her old diamond. He says that it just looks so different in the new setting.
He knows I think it is WEIRD!!!!

I don't think it would be a big deal. If you think about it, some jewelry stores buy diamonds from people. How do you (or your FH/DH) know that your diamond wasn't intended for someone else?

Its not a matter of it being for someone else ITS more about HE bought it for someone else!

That could very well be, but the fact that it was intended for someone your FH had once wanted to propose to is very different that it being Joe Schmo's ring in wisconsin...
Its all about emotional attachment i think...

This probably wouldn't bother me because he went through the trouble of having it reset. But I wouldn't want to know.
If he gave me the same ring as her bought for her, well that's different. I'd wring his neck!

Ohhhh I was thinking the WHOLE RING was re-gifted.. I guess if it was just the diamond it wouldn't be as bad. I would still be annoyed.

I would be SO PISSED. Even if it was just the diamond and not the whole ring, I would not want it. To me it represents love for another person, and I would not want anything associated with a former relationship, especially something so precious.

At least he didn't recycle the whole ring. I don't know, I think I would be upset. Whenever I looked at the diamond I would think how he bought it when he loved another woman. (i like to believe FH has only loved me)
