I dunno, my mother had four kids and drove a station wagon. She did just fine. Station wagons don't do the damage that SUV's do.

Also keep in mind that cars now have crumple zones and are made mostly of plastic. Back when our parents had wagons, most cars were consturcted differently.

I bet an old wagon could do some damage to a new car...imagine if something along the lines of the old 'battle wagon' (like in national lampoon's) were to T-bone a Saturn..I think there'd be significant damage there.

I have a SUV and our other vehicle is a pick-up truck.

Both get used on a regular basis to their fullest capacity. Even more so now that we bought the house and are doing work to it.

I love driving them both, that won't change.

No one needs a Hummer maybe cause LI is flat but an exursion is just a supersized exporer. Like a tahoe or surburban. I hate mini vans and I always said If I had a lot of children like 3 or more LOL I would get a tahoe or a suburban im not into being the soccer mom driving the mini van JUST ME THOUGH! I don't have a problem with SUV I do have a problem with SOME of the drivers though. You know the ones who can't handle the size of the car (I hate to say it but most are woman) or the ones who think they own the road (mostly men) Or the ones who think my 1994 Honda Civic 2 door is invisible and they should just drive over me.

Ever see a man driving one looking miserable as all hell? It is like he has been stripped of all of his dignity.

While I understand what you are saying Station wagons are not the same size as they use to be either. My parents had one also. My MIL has one today (1994 honda accord wagon) and there is no way you could fit 3 car seats in there. Even 2 car seats would be uncomfortable. The SUV's I was talking about have what like 7 seats. My cousins have a Mini Van and only one kid and sometimes thats not enough room when you add the stroller if they go somewhere with the playpen ETC ETC ETC. LOL... Again somepeople can't and shouldn't drive them but don't say they are all bad.

I do beleive that after a certain age--us humans need to re-take and re-pass their driving test again--Many elderlys out there are just as hazardous as 18 year old beginner drivers......
