Re: Whats the differenve between

maids are single
matrons are married

ushers - escort the guests to their seats
groomsmen - stand up at the alter with the groom

im not not sure about the usher vs groomsmen
but i think the diff between maid of honer and matron of honor is matron is married and maid is not. I could be wrong but thats what I've been told.

Re: Whats the differenve between

If the men are all standing with you and FH during the ceremony they are groomsmen.

The GM usually act as the ushers. At really large affairs, there are ushers to escort guests but sit do not stand up with the Groom during the ceremony.

Tia - you can basically do what ever you want in terms of people standing up with you. It doesn't have to be even. You can have a maid & matron of honor, or just one. Two best men, etc. It's really unlimited

I heard the rule is to have 1 usher for every 50 guests. I am having my uncles be my ushers.

My groomsmen will be my ushers. Specifically my friend and fiance's brother. I want my 2 brothers with me, to keep my nerves in check.

I always thought that groomsmen is another word for ushers.

As for Maid/Matron of Honor:

Maid is for single women
Matron is for married women.

The Knot wedding planning book is very helpful.

They may have this on their site as well.
groomsman can usher, but don't have to.
Most times they do it, liek MR Hostility said. A coupel are witht he groom, the others usher the guests.
I amy have the guys on my side of teh family be sort of unnofical usher/program attendants., since FH only has two groomsmen, but that's up to him.

Most times the BM walk in alone, but I think it might be different in Jewish weddings, but you can always opt to have them be escorted no matter what type of wedding you are having.
