I mean, it's fine if the theme of the party is pot luck, but in this case I think it's retarded!

A friend of ours got married about 4 months ago out of state, had a very small wedding....family only. Now they are back, and want to host a party celebrating their marriage with their friends. So, they decided to do a BBQ. Here's how it was explained:

'We would love to celebrate with you and have decided to host a bbq. Please let us know if you can make it for planning purposes. Basically, we are going to provide a grill outside on the stoop (it is a fun stoop!) with a big bucket drinks. After everyone has eaten their meat we will come up to our place and have little munchies and music and drinks and ??? You would need to bring your own meat products and drinks. We will provide condiments and some beer and maybe hotdogs. Not much more because we spent a lot on our wedding'.

And that's it!!

I cant believe someone would actually write and SEND those!!! I cant believe anone would even contemplate attending this BYOMeat fest!!! WHy didnt they just write...
.... Went into debt for our wedding... have no food, please send cash... or bring food to us... we will eat it, and there wont be any left overs...

... They could have just sent out announcements for less ink, and would have probably had a better turn out!!! Ugh people like that Irk me to no end!!!

thats a little tacky.. If you are going to have a BBQ then go and buy bulk hot dogs and Hamburgers and the extras.. and thats it.. It is a little rude to tell epoepl to bring their own meat..

Ok, update on this shindig, you're all not gonna believe it:

'Hey everyone! We just need to know asap how many of you will be coming. We want to figure out how much to get in the way of condiments, and charcoal. Also, let us know what you'll be bringing in the way of burgers and steaks, or whatever. And, if anyone has extra folding chairs, please let us know because we don't have many places to sit.'

I don't think they'll have to worry about chairs with NO ONE THERE.

I am laughing my A$$ off right now because I have lived through this BRING YOUR OWN MEAT thing! When my MOH got married two years ago, her sister planned her shower without consulting me (i was in the BP) and sent out invitations as me and her as the host. THe first time I saw the invite was when I got it in the mail. It was an informal BBQ at our apt. pool. Wording on the invitaiton 'Bring your own meat!' I nearly died that my name was associated with that and I got in a huge fight with her sister and told her that was the rudest and tackiest thing I had ever heard. If she had consulted me on the plans I would have obviously not have let that happen. So it was the hugest deal and she thought I was insulting her. Which I guess I was, but I was mortified that it looked like I was hosting a party where you had to bring your own side of beef! Anyway...it is now a huge joke everytime I have a party...I tell people it will not be a BYOM!

Its quite interesting that they are expecting people to bring 'steaks' for them - plain old burgers and hotdogs not good enough?

Question - Are they supplying the meat for themselves?
