Danielle and I are getting married in August. When are we supposed to contact the DJ to pick out the music? Also when are we supposed to contact the hall to pick out the food?
I know we are going to have to contact all of our vendors except the limo and our clergy to give them more money....and I am trying to hold off on it for as long as possible. We are now 4 months to the wedding, so I figure I have to start writting checks now....Am I right?

Make sure you check your contracts. Some want money they day of your wedding, 30 days before, 2 weeks.

Contact your DJ, they will probably give you a sheet to fill out (ie: first song, cake cutting, what you want to hear, what you don't, etc...) As far as the menu, my BM told me that you do it 6 weeks before.

I have the sheet from the DJ. I guess Danielle and I will have to look at all our contracts and see about contacting our vendors.

DJ and other vendors vary from 6 months before to the weekend before. I am not sure.
As far as catering goes....I think it is the day your final count is due that you pick out the menu...it is for us but that might also vary.

Well, contracts vary...but
For the catering hall, most have told me 7 days before the wedding, the final payment is due on the room min..
For the photographer & DJ, 24 hours before the event.
The florist, the week before
The limo, the morning of.. but two of the companies told me I could bring it anytime before the wedding in case I wanted to pay with credit card or regular check.

Your contract should spell it all out but we did our menu & music selections about a month prior to the wedding.

Ok cool thanks. Do you think the hall will mind if we come there and take pictures of the rooms that we are using? We want to know how much flowers we need for the chapel and what we need for the cocktail and reception. Thanks

Not at all!! In fact we went to the hall with our florist so he can see the whole place and figure out what would look best!

I don't see why not. I think we took pictures before we even out down our deposit!
BTW, our music selections were due 30 days before and we did our menu after the tasting and I think it ended up being about three weeks before.

Awesome...I didnt want there to be a problem with the catering hall. The pictures are really going to be very important to us....
