When someone invites you out for a drink...

Original post by usuk2004

just socially, and not necessarily someone of the opposite sex - do you make an excuse or do you go?

I've had a really hard time making friends here and I've just decided to do something about it. On several occasions now, I've invited people (just so happens other girls) out for a drink, and I've been turned down with such lame excuses. I'm not sure if it's a cultural thing or what, but it's really starting to depress me!!

I'm boring and unless I 'know' you or am comfortable around you, I'll pass.

Yeah, I'm sure that you're boring, Sasha

I am! And I'm socially awkward, so unless there was a comfort level, I would pass.

But I would so go for drinks with you Farah...even on a Monday!!

Maybe you're just too cool for them and they know it...

It's hard to believe that you're socially awkward, Sasha.

Farah, if you dye your hair like Rogue's, everyone will be tripping over themselves to have a drink with you. Maybe it's time for the London GTG.

Yes, I'm a super dork!!

And I agree completely...the stupid chick that turned you down for coffee will be so regretting it.

Who wants to chat on the phone anyway? What is she 12?

i do think it is a cultural thing. the british are a little more reserved- ever notice how quiet it is on the tube?

when i was in australia, i did have a few problems meeting people, i had a few friends, but not like i have here. and when i did go to parties with all australians, i noticed the conversations were quiet. since australia is sort of like britain i can compare it to that sort of.

i lived in germany for a year- and i had like 2 german friends (that was only b/c they lived on my floor). they dont talk to anyone and are very private people! most of my friends were americans or british people. then again that just may be a language barrier.

I lived in Europe and unless you lived in the City, we did not go out after work. Especially if you live in the suburb. Got to catch the train, subway..etc..

Takes time away from family. Unless you are much younger and party!!!!

DH and I decided we each get one night a week where we can go out with just friends. I try to take advantage of it, 'cause he sure does.

Id go but I just never have time. Sometimes I feel bad for constantly turning friends at work down, but most of them dont have children and dont realize how hard it is to get out.

I WISH I could go out more often because I TOTALLY would. Its so hard I have an overnights stay at a bed and breakfast and a large spa gift certificate I got last SEPTEMBER but I cant even use it b/c I just cant get away.
